I only asked because the Rick Reilly SI article had me wondering if Cubs fans have either thought about it... maybe not now, but in the past when there certainly was more of a reason for possibly thinking it.

Stop reading Rick Reilly.

Seriously. His picture is in the dictionary next to the definition for "douchebag".

Sosa should have kicked his ass.

you stole my joke

Andy: Tuna how come you never try to set me up?

Jim Halpert: Oh I don't really do that. But Pam might have some friends though.

Andy: Women friends?

Jim Halpert: Yep.

Andy: Not guy friends.

Jim Halpert: Are you interested in her guy friends?

Andy: No. I mean for the record I prefer women.

Jim Halpert: Ok.

Andy: But off the record I'm kind of confused.

Jim Halpert: Really.

Andy: Yeah the evidence is kind of stacked against me, I feel like.

Jim Halpert: Well you gotta figure this out.

Andy: Yeah. Right? How.

Jim Halpert: Have sex with a woman.

Andy: Right-o!

Jim Halpert: And a man. Then compare.

As horrible as this organization has been for so long, I wouldn't blame anyone for switching allegiances. However, it's not something I can do. I'd rather just stop dedicating too much time to them than switch.

They were so bad this year, that I just stopped watching. And based on how the season has gone, I'm glad I stopped watching. I saved myself a ton of heartache this year.

Hendry will probably need to be gone before I can seriously dedicate as much time as I have on them in the past.

The thought crossed my mind for the first time this season... but I very quickly decided that it would be impossible. No matter how hard I tried, there's just no way I could stop being a Cubs fan. So, this team better win something pretty soon because otherwise we're all just screwed.

I was going to post something like this almost verbatim.

Weve all used or heard the comparisons to either drug addicts and their drug of choice, or the no good family member or spouse that you keep taking back no matter how many times they dissapoint or screw you over. That pretty much sums it up.

I'm kind of surprised at the number of people that claim to have thought about switching because of this season. Really? I mean, I know it's been a big let down and all, but this is nothing compared to the 90's and 05-06.

Only if Indy ever gets a team and even then I'm not sure.

This, +1. And it would have to be an Indianapolis franchise in the NL Central for me to really have to think about it. Else, I'd just treat it like I do the rare times the Colts play the Bears. As in, get wasted and let the game sort things out.

If the Indy team were in the AL, then I'd just finally have an AL team. And REALLY hope for that dilemma of Chi vs Indy in the World Series.

That's what I was thinking. This season really killed you guys this much by being in 1st place as late as August?

And on the miserable to root for, this team isn't in the same galaxy as '04. I really don't understand.

I think it's right there with '04, but neither of those compares to '05 and '06.

Well I meant the more, I hate these [expletive] and the way they act(i.e. Moises Alou)

But yeah, if you didn't flinch during the [expletive] parade that was the '06 season, how the hell do you give up this year?

I figured that's what you meant, but I'd have to say I feel very similarly about this team. Baker and Alou are gone, and I love Lee and Ramirez now more than ever, but Bradley has pissed me off a lot (and at least Alou performed that year), Zambrano has been annoying, Miles is the new Neifi and I'm more annoyed with Hendry than ever. The foisting of Heilman and Gregg on this team as "necessary" veteran bullpen arms is just as frustrating. And while it's not on the same scale, the misuse of Harden and abandonment of the extra rest and "pretreatment" brings up past incidents of stupid decisions with pitchers.

2004 was opportunity lost, but at least they were in it up until the end.

2009 has been opportunity lost and they only seemed to be in it for about 2 weeks, and crumbled much sooner.

The 2004 season really pissed me off a lot more.

It was great that we were in the playoffs in both 2006 and 2007, but neither of those years brought the emotion that was felt in 2003 when we went deep. The expectations in 2004 were really high and it was the team that really missed out at the end. To top that, they were crying about Chip and Steve, with Dusty Baker leading the charge. The entire organization clearly did not have their priorities straight, starting at least with Hendry.

This year reminds me of 2004, but at the very least, their lack of good ball this year didn't stir up the hope that 2004 did.

Beats me. I don't know how this year can possibly be a breaking point for someone who has been a Cubs fan for any significant period of time.

Never. I do like the Pirates though only because I'm in Indy and get to see their AAA team play a lot so I'm familiar with a lot of their players. It's nice to see them play well and win when the Cubs aren't kicking the crap out of them.

This is not an option for me. I watch different teams through out the year, but don't have a rooting interest. I root more for individual players on other teams when they're not playing the Cubs. I'd never consider switching teams.

I couldn't be a Cubs fan. No offense to you guys. I've met some good Cubs fans. But I just couldn't switch. I've been watching Cardinal baseball since I was an infant. I love the Cardinals and St. Louis. It's genetic, too, I guess. My parents, my grandparents, their parents are and were Cardinal fans.

I find that whenever I try to root for another team that team always loses. Last years WS being an example. This is true of all sports seemingly though this past weekend I was rooting for Notre Dame and they actually won.

I doubt anyone here could ever give up on the Cubs completely but I could definitely see not spending nearly as much time and energy following them. I have no memory of the 96 & 97 seasons.

I remember back in 2005 trying to tell myself that it was OK to root for the White Sox in the playoffs and World Series, that it was good to have a WS Champ in town. I couldnt make it happen and I rooted for the Red Sox, Angels, and even the Astros to beat them all the way.
