As long as his kid was in the stadium, there is a 100% chance that he was racially taunted. In fact, I've heard that the Cubs have licensed their logo to a KKK hood making company and they expect it to be a best seller.

i like how people are so adamant that there's no racism going on among the 40,000 mostly white and drunk fans.

It's Chicago, not Boston.

Who said there was no racism? I'm sure there's racism at 100% of major league ballparks. But he makes it seem like he is Jackie Robinson in 1950's America and that's just not the case.

no he's saying that he heard racist things yelled and him and apparently his kid, which i don't doubt. you're the one saying he is making it seem like jackie robinson in 1950s america.

So you believe that his 3-year old kid was racially taunted by Cubs fans????

Posted

i doubt that his child was taunted himself, but it is possible that bradley was taunted while his son was with him...which is basically the same

it is terribly sad if true, and if it is true...those folks are just scum

So how DID Texas get such a bombastic season from him anyway? Can't all be explained with park factors...can it?

bom·bast (bŏm'bāst')

n. Grandiloquent, pompous speech or writing.

I've been using it wrong for probably 20 years.

Yeah, I doubt somebody directly taunted his 3 year old child. It's possible that somebody taunted Bradley while his child was there, or that somebody made general racial remarks (not necessarily about Bradley) while his kid was there.

Chicago's not Boston, but it's pretty damn racist.

I'm not naive enough to think there is no racism at Wrigley Field or any other ballpark for that matter. But in the bleachers, where I'd imagine that Bradley would encounter the most belligerent, drunken fans, a racist fan would have to yell pretty loud for Bradley to hear what he's saying. Wouldn't the people sitting around the fan speak up, tell an usher or do something about the idiot being racist? It is possible for Bradley's claims of racism to be found in more subtle forms such as the way things are phrased, etc.

anything is possible in this situation, i would love to read an in-depth interview with Milton to see what is exactly going on in that head of his

I must have grown up in bizarro Chicago or something. I'm not saying I never heard anything racist in my 18 years there, but I never heard the N word used so causually as I did when I moved to Texas. And even in my early days in the Chicago area it was usually an older person using the word in reference to an object or action. In Texas it's used in reference to people.

yeah, not much Chicago experience here, but I did live in Dallas for 5 years. Very taken aback by how much racism floats around in the Lone Star state, didn't get that vibe in Chicago, but i also didn't live there for 5 years

the way this all played out is bradley's fault. i don't know if he's unbalanced (likely) or what, but whatever, he's acted like a dick and his teammates don't care for him.

But the real villain in all this is Jim Hendry. I keep hearing that we'll have to eat 80-90 percent of this contract to move it. That's 16+ million dollars for a potentially cash-strapped team. There was a risk-assessment in this signing that the Cubs' brass totally failed at. Now we have to eat a lot of dough just to get Bradley off the roster, and the odds seem low that we'll be able to get a RF replacement in the deal, meaning we'll have to promote in-house (we have no one worthy of a spot on our current roster) or sign someone, which we can't do since we'll be paying 16 million dollars for Milton Bradley to play in Oakland, or wherever.

Unless Hendry can figure out a way to get someone in here for RF that isn't a complete disaster, this has to cost him his job. For better or worse, he's somewhat married to this situation and it went as badly as possible. This was such an avoidable situation and he walked into it head first.

This is dead on.

Agreed. This is Sosa all over again. 16 mil went to Baltimore in that deal, if I'm not mistaken. Not comparable player situations, but financial definitely.

I can't believe the idea of Hendry being fired isn't being talked about at Clark & Addison.

My guess is that they'll see it as "one bad signing" when in reality it was an expensive risk not worth taking and one that had little chance of success from the moment Bradley signed. Especially when there were plenty of other options out there.

Olney On Bradley, Jays, Wood

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [september 22 at 11:33am CST]

ESPN.com's Buster Olney hears that the Rangers probably wouldn't welcome Milton Bradley back. Here's the latest on the now-suspended outfielder, along with the rest of Olney's rumors:

* Olney says the Cubs will likely have to eat a huge portion of Bradley's contract to move him, perhaps as much as $18-19MM. The Cubs owe the 31-year-old $21MM over the next two years.

* The Padres may be looking for a corner outfielder this offseason, so they could have interest in Bradley.

* Olney says baseball people presume Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi will be fired. (What do you think?) If the Jays cut ties with their GM, Cubs scouting director Tim Wilken could be a candidate to replace him.

bradley to the padres!?!?!?

if bradley doesn't get shipped to an AL team i will shart

i really don't think so, hendry is in some serious hot water right now, which was highlighted even more from recent events

hendry is going to get canned/demoted

Seriously, why do you care? This isn't like the Jays not wanting to trade Halladay within the division.

Don't we wish?

It's not likely though. The new ownership almost completely makes it impossible for them to get rid of Hendry this off-season.

I would love it, but I can't see Rickets doing it as his first "mark" on the Cubs. I think what is far more likely to happen is that he increases payroll substantially for the next couple of years until the big contracts start coming off the books.

I think Hendry could be fired by mid season.

I think he's wondering why you'd 'shart' if Bradley didn't go to an A.L. team. Would it be surprise that an N.L. team would want him to play in the field, or that you don't want the Cubs to face him?

I love how so many people that aren't racist take it personally when a player talks about racist fans.

He wasn't talking about you. He was talking about the racists.

Which is something that tends to lead to an entire group being labeled as racist.

Dusty acted as though the only people who didn't appreciate him as a manager must have been racists, and Bradley has insinuated the same thing.

People hate Bradley becuase he was a disappointing player and a complete [expletive], but he wants to act as though those people hate him because they are racist, and there are plenty of people who want to share that opinion. Plus, Bradley wants to pretend that racism is what ruined the Cubs/Bradley relationship even though it was completely due to his [thought this made up word was going to be censored].

I don't think that is it at all. I think most people see think the racism excuse is a cop out.

I don't for a second doubt that Bradley was subject to some racism.

because it really seems like the only fit for him, especially after the latest debacle

why put him in another high profile situation, if he DH's then he is reducing his team requirements and level of duty if you will

just my opinion, but i was of the same mind last season before hendry signed him to man RF everyday

Great, his Mom is standing up for him. And, of course, Bradley claims fans were screaming racial slurs at his 3-year old son.

Pretty easy for him to drop the race card in this situation to deflect from the real cause of his problems.

Pressed, Rector wouldn't give details to verify her claims. She only offered that it involved Bradley's 3-year-old son facing racial slurs at about the same time Bradley was complaining about what he considered a racist element of Cubs fans.

Let me be the first to call BS on this one. I don't deny that racism still exists, but I can't possibly imagine a racial slur against a 3-year old kid.

Its all true. In fact, this amature video of Bradleys son was recorded after the game
