Re: 2009 Chicago Blackhawks

55-24 shots and a loss... yikes.

That makes me feel better. You're going to lose games sometimes when either the goalie stands on his head or you just can't bury golden chances. But overall, you put that kind of pressure on and you'll win a lot of games.

Yeah something tells me, the Hawks are prolly going to cruise past the Panthers in the next game.

Hopefully. I'll be happy with 3 points in Finland.

It's certainly good to see the Hawks put up that many shots. I was wondering if the offense was going to generate as much pressure as last year. I'm sure it will be less for the time being, but the shot total looks good to me.

I didn't get a chance to see the game (class) but how did Huet look? I've heard mixed things.

Hopefully we win tomorrow. We need 3 points from this trip.

Huet was fantastic in the first period and just okay the rest of the way. He got roasted on both shootout attempts though.

Overall he was pretty good.

That's exactly it.

We outplayed them like crazy on the offensive-side. Could've easily had 6-7 goals and Kane could've had 3-4 himself if not for some outstanding saves.

Oh well, just win tomorrow.

Ehh, going back and looking at that first period, Huet got pretty lucky on quite a few plays. Dont get me wrong, I also think he played well (especially his side to side movement), but there were a lot of missed chances by FLA that had nothing to do with Huet. While the goals he let in weren't really soft, he really needs to work on his upper body. Hes a butterfly goalie, nothing you can do about that (and he wasnt really going down too early), but everyone in the league knows to go high on him and look what happens, 3 goals on 15 shots in the 2nd and third.

Other than that...

Toews looked amazing

Buff looked fantastic and in great shape

Hjarl was our best d-man by far (just like he was at the end of last year)

Seabrook looked bad except for the pass to Kane and that nice backdoor that Brouwer didnt see

speaking of, why does everyone think so highly of Brouwer?

Bolland was the guy who made that hit that someone mentioned earlier, both he and Madden did what they're supposed to, great D, a bit of O

Kane, Sharp, steeg did what they do, a bit of O and little else

Campbell was quiet on both ends, which is fine by me (ignoring the fact we're paying him a bazillion dollars)

Barker was godawful, sopel wasnt much better

Overall, after getting our butts whipped in the first, it was nice to see the boys come out and completely dominate the rest of the game (despite the score). Vokoun stood on his head, you have to tip your hat to him.

I'm really concerned with our third D pairing. Q needs to be able to play them more than 10-ish (even strength) minutes a game or Seabrook and Keith are going to be zombies by the end of the year (like we saw last year).

3 points in Finland. I'll take it.

Hawks looked good in all phases today.

Yep, I'll take that every time. Though I agree that Florida looked completely overmatched most of the last two games and we should have won both.

Can't wait to see the home opener on Saturday.

The pessimistic view says we only scored one non-PP goal in that game, the optimistic view says if we keep playing like we'll put the puck in the net enough to stroll into the playoffs with home ice advantage.

Niemi also looked pretty impressive when he was tested.

I think I'm going to go to the home opener.

Is there anywhere to watch the Blackhawks online (live and/or replays)? I'm at work and it's slow. I missed the game today, don't even know who won so it's a perfect opportunity to watch it.

Never mind. Should've just checked NHL.com. Too bad it costs money. And that I couldn't find it without seeing that the Hawks won.

There's a lot of Hawks games that are streamed on some certain sites.

Huet looks mediocre, gives up 4 goals to Florida, and loses a shootout

Niemi pitches a shutout against the same team...

hmm...

Again, I didn't watch the game yesterday but the defense didn't really have any mistakes of note today.

The good thing is today's performance by Niemi solidifies him as our backup for now. Crawford was horrid in the preseason, so have fun in Rockford big guy.

has cyno been banned? I dont like his constant complaining about officiating, but loved his passion for hockey.

yes he has been banned. i'd like to think there are other people on this board who are passionate about hockey but also emotionally stable.

if you want me to jump into this thread and throw around sexual assault terms on a regular basis, I can do that.

i like his passion for hockey but dislike literally every other thing about him. i could probably find some other cubs fan that likes hockey if you need someone to fill the void. hopefully this one won't have some weird affinity for watching videos of murders or something.

The Blackhawks today traded D Aaron Johnson to Calgary for LW Kyle Greentree.

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/news/story?id=4541002

This likely frees up a little cap room and gives Calgary a depth defenseman. Greentree is interesting...he put up a lot of points in the AHL. Hopefully he's more Kris Versteeg than Brandon Bochenski. For those who remember Johnson's agent is Walsh, the same as Havlat's. He already made a comment on Twitter about AJ seeing this coming.

Interesting the drama behind it, I guess, but the fact is we had a surplus on defense and Brent Sopel is better than Aaron Johnson. Which isn't saying much for AJ.

I was under the impression they were very deep at forward and if they needed anything it was defensemen.

You only dress 6 defensemen. Barker, Hjarmalsson, Keith, Seabrook, Campbell and Sopel, and then you've got Hendry there as a backup.
