Wrigley is going to be unbearable for Lou, Milton, Soriano, Gregg, and Miles in September. If they thought the booing was bad during the summer, they have no idea what they are in for with this team all but done and having the 3rd highest payroll in the majors.

It's going to get ugly.

Boo'ing Milton immediately invalidates your credibility as a boo'er.

If history is any guide, they'll be greeted with apathy more than anything else. I remember numerous games towards the end of 2006 with empty seats and quiet fans.

I doubt the fans will even care.

Where are you getting this? What are the "indications"? Not saying I don't believe you, but haven't heard anything about that at all.

Media speculation and he's a Cubs legend who has worked his way through the minors to get his shot. He was on with Waddle and Silvy today and he basically said he's ready for a chance to become a big league manager. Lou's gone and the naming of Ryno as manager will create quite a buzz with the fans. The Cubs will need that going into 2010 after this wreck of a season.

Or, you know, hiring a good manager that actually gets these guys to play fundamentally sound baseball and win a few games. Thats a way to create a buzz with the fans too...

I didn't hear it obviously, but if Ryno was really pushing for the job as the Cubs season goes down the drain that is not very classy at all.

He wasn't pushing for it, he was asked. He didn't say: "Yes, I want to manage the Cubs". However, he's managing a farm team of ours, knows the game and knows the urgency involved here. Just connect the dots.

Speaking of the 9/30 makeup game, what happens if I had tickets and can't make the game? Can I exchange the tickets?

Suuuure....you can't make the game...riiiight.

If Ryno manages next year I can pretty much guarantee that the Cubs will have more stupid managerial decisions next year than this year.

Well, the 2006 team wasn't expected to do crap. This team was and has failed beyond belief.

At the instant last season ended, who would have predicted a season like this if I told you that Koske and Lee would have pretty good bounce-back seasons?

God, I hope not. I love Ryno as much as the next guy as a player, but he should be the last guy to be manager of the Cubs. I have no problems adding Ryno to the coaching staff, but in no ways should he be manager of the Cubs in 2010. IMO, Trammel should be the next guy, if they are going to stay in-house, as manager and not Ryno.

You're telling me you'd want to go to a meaningless Cubs-Pirates game? Have fun with that.

Well, I could make it if I really wanted to, but it's pretty obvious that this team is not worth a vacation day.

That will be almost impossible. Lou is basically in a coma out there.

Not really. Sandberg would make more idiotic coaching decision before all star break then Piniella. At least Piniella has the "Resume" as a manager to be given the benefit of the doubt. Sandberg doesn't.

The 2006 team had fairly lofty expectations, especially after Lee's monster 2005 and the rotation (*snicker*) supposedly healthy coming into Spring Training. Moreover, with the moves Hendry made, he sure as heck expected this team to have improved over 2005's Cubs and that they would be in contention.

I'm not saying that was a good team from the outset, but the Cubs sure as heck sold themselves like they could compete.

Maybe the expectations weren't super high but there were expectations for that team. Until Derrek Lee went down we were doing ok. Not saying we would have been much better but there were a lot of injuries that year. It reminds me a little bit of how our starting staff keeps getting injured. I think we saw 17 starting pitchers that year....Mateo, Marmol, Ryu, Walrond, Marshall, Maddux, Zambrano, Hill, Guzman, Prior, Wood, O'Malley, Jerome Williams, Wade Miller, Rusch...I'm probably missing a few.

Hope you love bunting with the #3 hitter and a general disdain towards statistics. Sandberg hasn't shown himself to be the brightest bulb in this system.

Just because he wants to manage doesn't mean he'll be given the reins when Lou steps down.

Horrible strike 3 call...ump wants to go home. I saw the pitch, and then looked back down at my computer sure it was a ball...then I heard "called strike 3" and looked up in disbelief.

I hear you, and I could see the Cubs thinking along those lines. But hiring a manager to create a buzz is a bad, bad idea.

So, basically, Ryno would have to trump Lou's move to pinch hit Miles tonight. That's a real tough trick. He's done this crap all season.

Yup, I remember everyone thinking the playoffs were an inevitability for this team. I'll admit I was mostly on that bandwagon. As painful as last year's playoffs were, I had a slight hope that we'd get another shot the next year. Whoops...just more misery for Cubs fans.

I also remember the teams in the Central not looking particularly imposing that year. We know what happened with the Cardinals, but going into the season, the NL Central looked like the Cubs could win it.

I still go back and forth on whether 2002 or 2006 was the more miserable season this decade.
