If Ryno manages next year I can pretty much guarantee that the Cubs will have more stupid managerial decisions next year than this year.

That will be almost impossible. Lou is basically in a coma out there.

Hope you love bunting with the #3 hitter and a general disdain towards statistics. Sandberg hasn't shown himself to be the brightest bulb in this system.

Just because he wants to manage doesn't mean he'll be given the reins when Lou steps down.

Haha! Hey, I'm not saying Ryno is Sparky Anderson, I'm just saying there's a strong chance he'll be next. And after watching Lou this year, he can't be any worse.

Lou was a step up from Dusty Baker. Sandberg definitely can be worse.

Well, the 2006 team wasn't expected to do crap. This team was and has failed beyond belief.

Maybe the expectations weren't super high but there were expectations for that team. Until Derrek Lee went down we were doing ok. Not saying we would have been much better but there were a lot of injuries that year. It reminds me a little bit of how our starting staff keeps getting injured. I think we saw 17 starting pitchers that year....Mateo, Marmol, Ryu, Walrond, Marshall, Maddux, Zambrano, Hill, Guzman, Prior, Wood, O'Malley, Jerome Williams, Wade Miller, Rusch...I'm probably missing a few.

I also remember the teams in the Central not looking particularly imposing that year. We know what happened with the Cardinals, but going into the season, the NL Central looked like the Cubs could win it.

I still go back and forth on whether 2002 or 2006 was the more miserable season this decade.

Yeah the fact that the Cardinals won the division with 83 wins was like a final slap in the face for Cubs fan. No wait, I stand corrected, them winning it with 83 wins was the final slap. I mean, the 08 Cubs had more wins last season than the 06 Cardinals, playoff wins included.

We had rookie stud Prior and still-a-starter Wood in 2002. We had clearly-broken-and-will-never-be-a-factor-again Prior and Wood in 2006. I think that swings it to 06 being more miserable. I know it shouldn't matter but the Cards winning it all that year definitely sucked too. We didn't have a whole lot of hope of any success in the near future in 06.

I want people to know while we abuse Lou a bit here, he's an infinitely better than Baker. Baker was in his own world. I still think that an "involved" Lou is not a bad choice to manager your team. But the way he's managed in the face of adversity really turned me off to him.

I guarantee he won't have the #3 hitter lay down a sac bunt in any situation in the majors....just because he's teaching minor leaguers how to play the game and learn all the fundamentals does NOT mean he will do it in the big leagues

I think Lou's problem is something that is common to many, many managers. He over-thinks situations and feels that he has to do more than is really necessary to win games as a manager. When he over-thinks a situation, it tends to backfire on him more often than not. Moreover, he deserves some credit for being willing to think outside the box (see: Marshall in LF), for sticking with hot hands, and for being willing to play rookies.

To be quite honest, this team sucks fundamentally and it shows

Speaking of the 9/30 makeup game, what happens if I had tickets and can't make the game? Can I exchange the tickets?

I found my answer on Cubs.com.

Fans unable to attend the September 30 make-up game may request a refund by sending their tickets to the Wrigley Field Ticket Office at 1060 W. Addison St., Chicago, IL 60613 or by visiting the Wrigley Field ticket windows during business hours. All refunds must be requested before September 4.

I originally planned on waiting until as close to the deadline as possible to see whether the game was going to mean anything, but after watching the past few games I have my tickets sealed up in an envelope and ready to mail.

Something tells me having an angry manager harp about fundamentals isn't going to change anything. These are grown men who have been playing baseball for most of their lives; bringing in new coaches and new managers really will not change a whole lot. You'd still see Soriano do that annoying hop, swing at horrible pitches, and have a loopy swing. You'd still see Theriot having trouble ranging in either direction and making the throws he needs to make. You'd still see Kevin Gregg struggle with his control and periodically give up HRs.

If you want a fundamentally sound team, this one is not constructed to pull that style of baseball off. Bringing in someone like Sandberg won't magically change the problems facing this team.

It can't hurt....the only way to get through to players these days is to embarrass them because fining them does no good anymore with the huge salaries....Lou 20 years ago would not have stood by and watched this, Girardi wouldn't have watched this, and Sandberg won't either

All we get are so called "players managers" anymore (even though we didnt think we were with Lou)....lets try someone that keeps the players on their toes because they know they will be held accountable for once
