I can't wait for the day when Pujlos costs the Cards 25+% of their total payroll like he should right now.

50% would be about right.

It really begs the question as to what Albert would fetch in the open market today? He is easily worth more than Arod, but can that type of contract be had for the next couple of years. $30 million doesn't seem like a number that out of reach for him.

I don't think there's any way Pujols doesn't catch 30 mil barring something like an injury or a complete market crash.

Pujols will take what the Cardinals give, I bet he never leaves for a bigger contract.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he tests the market and even leaves. I was reading an article talking about this a month or two ago, and it really had me convinced the prospect of him bolting is around 50/50.

I doubt he'd come to the Cubs so NY, LA or Boston it is.

He has repeatedly stated that he will take under-value for a competing team if he feels it would help him win more rings. I agree that he'll most likely stay a Cardinal. With his absurd stats and peripherals and on and on, you could make the argument that he's 'worth' 40 million or whatever number you toss out.

Bottom line; I expect him to re-sign with the Cards for a 24/per extension. I agree that he would probably get 30 million+ with the Red Sox. I believe this is one of the reasons the Cards were more aggressive with trades than many teams - if they'd pulled last year's [expletive] "We Have a Fighting Chance With This 80 Win Team" maneuver, he'd be that much more likely to consider a franchise more interested in rings.

he hit another grand slam today. i heard he is 7 for 9 with bases loaded this year including 5 grand slams. i havent checked that stat yet but if its true that is just ridiculous. i would consider walking in a run.

If Albert were on the open market and took no hometown discounts, I'd bet on the yearly payout being closer to 40 mil than 30.

Not even close. There are maybe 3 teams with that kind of fliff like that, and that's not enough to push a bidding war up to 40 million.

Correct.

This season: 7-for-9 with five home runs, 24 RBI, and a sac fly

Career: 124 plate appearances, .414/.395/.838 (OBP lower than BA due to 17 SF against only 7 BB), with 9 doubles, 11 HR, and 136 RBI
