Typical Cubs. I turn on the radio for 3 minutes. I hear 2 pitches to Uggla, one the homer, and then the Ross AB.

Kevin Gregg is a better option than Kerry Wood because..... why?

because he's better than kerry wood

No. He's just not.

Wood is struggling in his first year in a new league. He'll be much better next year. Gregg just has long periods where he just plain sucks, like April and the first 2 days in August, for example.

Well he's been a hell of a lot better than Wood at a lower price, for one thing.

Itd probably help if Wood was actually getting some kind of consistent saves oppurtunitys.

Gregg has now allowed 8 dingers in 44 innings; that's a brutal rate for a closer

Look on the bright side - Gregg probably won't be closing next year. ;)

Atleast not for Cubs.

There's no comparison between the 2; yes Kerry is struggling this year, but his ERA over his career is considerably better than Gregg's and he's thrown a helluva lot more innings; does anyone really think a closer with a career ERA of almost 4 is worth a damn? I sure don't

Really sucks we lost the game, but we certainly had our chances to win offensively earlier in the game blowing chances for runs in the 1st and 3rd innings. Runner on third with 1 out should be converted a large majority of the time IMO. I'm not saying Gregg isn't in complete fault, but we could have avoided him even pitching.

The loss isn't the end of the world. Still only 0.5 back of the Cardinals, and unfortunately we lost a game in the WC to both Colorado and SF, and are 2 games behind them both.

Try to suck it up, maybe mull some changes in the pen and hopefully beat up on the hapless Reds this week.

A season like this, its easier to take these losses for some reason. It stings, but I'm over it.

Kerry Wood has also gone through long periods of sucking this year. From April to August.

That's just the absolute worst way to lose.

Leave it to the Cubs to put that vomit taste in our mouths yet again.

I can handle just not scoring enough runs off the opposing starter, I can handle giving up the go-ahead runs in the 6th or 7th or 8th, but there's just nothing quite as gut-wrenching as watching the closer serve up a pair of meatballs to a pair of meatballs like Uggla and Ross.

Ruins my Sunday night it does. :-&

I know, I was feeling quite good about us leaving Florida with a series win 2 years in a row. Even though we won the season series against the Marlins 4-3, it feels like we went 2-5 against them. We just never have an easy damn time with them. I hate them more than any team not based within 5 miles of a 600 ft arch. Yes I hate them more than the White Sox.

I don't know what it is about that place. I guess seeing as we can't be an abomination to baseball up in Montreal anymore, we choose Florida in which to be a complete embarrassment to the sport.

It's been a while since we lost a game like this. Cards lost, and we are outta Florida. All is good!!!!

I can't be the only one who isn't really that pissed about this loss.

Maybe I've just come accustomed to losses like that where I don't feel any pain anymore.

Nah, I just thought... "a 3-1 slider belt high" & "damn did he miss on that FB".

I was more upset after he blew the lead yesterday than today. Maybe it's because the Cardinals lost already, or maybe because the offense didn't really earn a victory today, or maybe its because we all kind of braced for this when Gregg came in to protect a 1 run lead after blowing the game yesterday.
