that'd be fair to say, dew. cleveland got 4 guys who were probably between 4-10 or so in Phil's org ranking

Ok, thanks. I still think it's a very good deal for the Indians.

The Indians were a team expected to contend each of these last two years, and failed miserably. So, I understand the desire to blow things up. I just don't see how trading away a top-line pitcher, signed at an under-market salary, which goes through next season, really helps things. Unless the Indians are conceding next year as a re-building season, that is. In which case, If I were an Indians fan, I wouldn't be too happy about this, regardless of the quality of the prospects.

and pitching has been the big problem. It's been a revolving door of suck between Cleveland and Columbus this year, with Lee being the only really reliable arm in the rotation (heck, Fausto Carmona is in AAA right now)

They've added some talented young pitchers, though, in Carlos Carrasco and Chris Perez. The Indians should have held onto Lee, I thought, unless they got a great deal for him. That's what I think they got here.

However, Lee is definitely a great monetary value.

Not sure if this deserves its own thread but since the Indians look to be unloading their roster, would you guys be opposed to dealing bradley to them for Wood? I mean wouldn't it be the same years and money?

Wood is only signed through 2010, right?

Signed through 2010 with an option for 2011 that is guaranteed with 55 games finished in either 2009 or 2010.

The Indians want young prospects, not a guy like Bradley.

Ive got to believe Victor Martinez is the next to go, as they got a good catching prospect from Philly. Martinez could probably get them a couple more young talented arms.

And the Cubs don't need to be trading for more relievers.

Especially ones that are performing worse than anyone in our pen.

They also have Carlos Santana in the upper minors (catching prospect who they got from the Dodgers for Casey Blake).

The scary part is, the Phillies still have the prospects to pull off the Halladay trade - if they wanted to.

And they would have them both under their control for next year, too. I know there are other things to consider, but if "winning" is your #1 priority, then, well......

Game 1: Hamels

Game 2: Halladay

Game 3: Lee

.........

From what I've heard negotiations between the Phillies and the Blue Jays have gotten cantankerous and that is the reason they stopped talking. If the Lee deal official goes down, then I simply do not see Philly acquiring Halladay. With that said, I expect Halladay to either stay with Toronto and is moved to Boston, who seem to making aggressive overtures at getting Doc.

I understand that the four prospects are rated pretty well but shouldn't somebody of Lee's caliber and contract status (especially) net one of the opposing teams top 3 prospects?

I mean would Lee for Drabek straight up be a resonable trade? I wouldn't have thought so.

Francisco is no star but he has some value.

I don't know the Phillies prospects at all but unless whichever of the four is most highly rated (Carasco?) would be the #1 prospect for most other teams I think the Phillies got a bit of a steal. It reminds me of those Braves trades of the early 90's.

A little LH dominated rotation ain't it?

They're countering the Cubs "get more lefthanded" strategy.

Carrasco is the most highly rated of the prospects. All four of them are top 10 prospects in the Phillies' system, which is a pretty impressive haul, and most of the guys were tossed around in the Halladay talks.

I'm not sure how strong Philadelphia's system is, though, which would impact how impressive it is that those prospects were top 10 guys in their system.

Pedro Martinez?

#-o I forgot about Martinez, but since both Moyer and Martinez sucks at this point in their respective careers, I would almost basically have one piggy back the other.

Well Tim, I thought that was pretty obviously to everyone that the Phillies were trying to counter what the Cubs are tryig to do. D'uh.... :D
