HE [expletive] BLOCKED THE BALL ON PURPOSE... WHAT THE [expletive]?!?!?!?

yes i'm sure a righthanded pitcher intentionally put his hand up to block a hard throw from the shortstop to first baseman.

Baseball players are not renowned for their intelligence and common sense.

i suspect he just slides like an idiot and is trying to distract theriot. i highly doubt that he wants to get his bare hand in the way of it.

Watch the replay, champ.

Too be fair a pitcher is going to have trouble doing a fundamental slide, which would involve flailing arms but that did look fishy.

7.09(g): If, in the judgment of the umpire, a base runner willfully and deliberately interferes with a batted ball or a fielder in the act of fielding a batted ball with the obvious intent to break up a double play, the ball is dead. The umpire shall call the runner out for interference and also call out the batter runner because of the action of his teammate.

nothing about being able to touch the bag in there. It's up to the umpire's discretion.

And we know how awesome umpires are these days.

His hand will be fine, it hit the fat part of the palm. If it would've hit the fingers, the odds would've dropped dramatically.

I think he was trying to hit the arm instead of the ball.

I think the fine + possible jail time is worth the satisfaction of choking Joe Morgan.
