Pirates fire sale. Anything we can grab?

We traded a backup outfielder, a starting corner outfielder with no pop, and a front end of the bullpen guy an you're calling this a fire sale?

I'll have to read down further and see who's saying salary dump!

Seems like a pretty good deal for the Pirates, IMO.

I dont quite get the Milledge hype. Hes had almost 1000 ab's at the Major League level and has a .720's OPS. I understand he was a top prospect for the Mets and such, but hes done nothing in the majors to think hes going to live up to the hype. Career .326 OBP? Maybe he will prove me wrong, but from what Ive read of his personality, and what hes shown playing at the ML level, Ill pass.

He just turned 24. I'd gamble that there might be something there with Milledge all day long over what you know you're going to get with Nyjer Morgan.

I suppose so. I still think Milledge ends up being nothing more than a 4th OF

It's a low risk/high reward trade. Also, I think Hanrahan has a much more lively arm than Burnett. Pittsburgh has a million lefties in their system, and it wouldn't hurt them to be a little more right handed on the mound, even if that sounds way to Hendryish. Burnett is just a junk baller from everything I've seen.

An outfield of Milledge/McCutcheon/Tabata in Pittsburgh could be kind of fun.

I seem to recall a lot of bitching on this board during the 2003 draft that the Cubs should have taken Milledge or Markakis in the first round, and not Ryan Harvey.

Everyone was right about not taking Harvey, of course.

I was critical of the McLouth trade, but the Morgan deal is a really, really good one for the Pirates.

I don't see why it matters. There's always a deal or two that's good, but all around it is a team stuck in nowhere land, perpetually looking 3 years down the road while delivering on nothing. Unloading every decent player they have, bring up the next batch, unload them too.

They're a disaster. Pirates fans I know don't even acknowledge their existence, and haven't for a long time.

If they ever hope to get out of nowhere land, this is the type of deal they need to make. Morgan is a decent player, but he's already 29, and his value is tied to a position that the Pirates have plenty of higher potential guys(McCutcheon, Tabata, Hernandez). Milledge may continue down his Pattersonian path, but he has the chance to break out and be a big producer they'd need if they're to turn it around. Also, Hanrahan is better than Burnett.

It's a good trade for the Bucs b/c they didn't give up anything worth a lick, but the odds are pretty small they'll get anything of value from this either. Milledge isn't smart enough to learn to use his tools, he's a great BP hitter and taking IF/OF, hasn't been able to put it in use when the game is being played.

I would really like if we could figure out a way to get Sanchez and Hanrahan in a package deal.

they are willing to part with grabow and capps from what i have read...i don't really see why they would trade hanrahan so quickly though

I figured it would take more to get Capps or Grabow, but if those two can be had for cheaper than I am all for it.
