The whole team is basically garbage, but Soriano is the biggest piece of it. Weeeeeee! No runs again.  We might have the most expensive outfield in Baseball and it's without a doubt, the worst.

nice work cobs, 3 runs in 2 games against the butt pirates.

The Pirates only managed 4 runs in 2 games against the Ass Cubs. I'd hate to be THOSE guys.

They have no idea where the strike zone is offensively. Their ability to get the pitcher into hitter's count is long gone.

I watched up until it was 2-0 and the only one that worked it into a hitter's count was Soto on the DB. It should be noted that Soto hit a 3-1 FB after being thrown 4 straight breaking balls b/c the league has started to figure him out as far as not being able to hit a breaking ball. Last year, he was able to work it into a FB count though more than this year.

Honestly, this is the one time where I think it's okay for a fan of another team to come and talk crap. You guys suck ass and have for years, but at least you know you're going to suck. We have $140 million payroll and are absolutely horrid.

In some ways, I envy teams like the Pirates being able to trade their veteran players and rebuild through the minor league system. Of course, when it is a neverending cycle of trading players and starting over, that's no fun either.

They never seem to time it right. The Marlins do a better job of that.

That's b/c despite the high draft picks and rec'g prospects at the deadline, they still haven't been able to develop from within.

It's not an easy task. How many teams have done it successfully? We obviously haven't. The Red haven't. The Brewers are finding some success. How many World Series have the A's won with Billy Ball?

We've had some bad luck along the way. Sean Burnett's career was killed by injuries. Bobby Bradley too.

We've had stupidity mixed with bad luck - see John VanBenschoten and Bryan Bullington - two first round draft picks who shouldn't have been picked, then go on to get injured. Then there is the Aramis trade. Team was in debt, we needed to cut payroll immediately. We were about to trade Benson, but he got hurt. (Bad luck) So, there was the Aramis Trade. (Stupidity.)

But...

I like what the guys running the place are doing now. I like how they're drafting. And, I liked today's trades. (I'm liking the McLouth trade a bit more each time Morton pitches.) Unfortunately, we can't take back the Bay trade....

BTW, We have two players in the futures game next week. (or is that two weeks?) We're still a long way to go, but at least we're on the road for the first time in as long a time as I can remember.

Many of the smaller market teams have had some success by building that way while having a smaller payroll over the past few years. TB has won from within, Minnesota, Oakland, Clev. did a few years ago, Florida, Colorado, SD.

16 years/soon to be 17 years of bad baseball is quite a streak.

I agree that they've made strides these recent years though, but they're still not at mediocrity yet.

Well that sucked... thank God half the crowd was Cubs fans or else I might have started a fight. Soriano needs to be taken out of the leadoff spot but more than anything else - Lou HAS to go. Lilly should never have faced Sanchez but the Pirates didn't even have to show up tonight - the Cubs did a fine job beating themselves.

Oh well, hopefully they take the rubber game tomorrow night

I hate baseball right now. The Cubs lose to a pitcher with "dorf" in his last name, and yet the Brewers can beat Johan Santana? FML.

There is probably some sort of charm in rooting for a team like Pittsburgh and Kansas City, going to games for cheap, kind of being able to be detached because you don't need to have expectations, being able to go to games just for interesting matchups or whatnot if you like.

I wouldn't trade being a fan of a team like the Cubs for it, but years like this, it seems a little less painful.
