CINCINNATI -- Jake Fox may get his first start Saturday, playing in right field against rookie left-hander Matt Maloney.

"Our problem here is that in the areas he plays, we have more depth than anywhere else," manager Lou Piniella said. "There's a possibility I'll just put him out there in right field."

Fox has three hits in seven at-bats after tearing up Triple-A pitching. He probably will be the Cubs DH when they play road series against the White Sox and Detroit later this month.

"Look, he deserves a chance to play up here," Piniella said. "It's just a question of whether the team is put together the right way to utilize his skills. We get into interleague play a little, assuming he's still here, we can put him in the DH spot. We like Jake."

Will Carrol just tweeted

If you haven't heard today's BP Radio with Jake Fox, you should. That's some attitude that kid has.

What's he talking about?

He's a horse's ass.

Who? Carroll or Fox?

Fox. He has a bit of a reputation of being a jerk and some people think he's uncoachable because of it.

I was talking about Carroll.

So the answer is both.

It was hilarious to watch Reed run to RF from CF and call off Fox on balls hit almost directly at him. Evidently they didnt want Fox fielding anything.

I thought the shot Brenly took at Fox while doing the starting lineups was completely out of line and uncalled for. There was no need to make his little smartass comment like he did.

Actually I have been to spring training the last 8 years and I have to say outside of Juan Pierre, he is by far the most friendly and humble person and first one to sign autographs every single day

Others that seemed like very nice people are Dempster, Wood, Jacque Jones, Marshall, Dusty Baker

Biggest pr*ck ive seen since ive been going is matt murton

Yeah, I've heard from multiple people that Fox might be the nicest guy they've met in the minors or majors.

I also never heard that he was uncoachable. If this is based on his quick entrance into Lou's easy-to-access dog house, I don't care.

He sure was....im thinkin like 4 years ago maybe, we saw Murton get on and off the bus 10+ times the week and a half we were there and he signed one autograph....and Dusty got him off the bus and made him sign it

It was a little boy in a wheelchair with a t-shirt on that said "murton is the best" or "murton is my favorite" or something like that and he was right next to the door of the bus begging for his autograph and Murton just walked right past him(meanwhile 15+ players were signing multiple autographs at this time and this time everyday)....finally about 10 mins later Dusty came out and everyone was b*tching about Murton really loud and yelling "bench his a**, hes an a**hole" and Dusty went and got him off the bus and made him sign the kids autograph and he still didnt say a hi or nothin to the kid, just put his head down and signed real fast and got back on and people were letting him have it

noone else really stands out....Prior, Cedeno, Todd Walker werent ever friendly but werent pr*icks either, just standoff-ish

Zambrano, Eyre, and Nomar are also guys that go out of their way to interact with the fans and sign autographs

Can't recall the exact sources from where I've heard that, but I remember reading not too long ago that part of the reason he wasn't able to stick at anywhere defensively was because he didn't have particularly favorable relationships with his coaches.

Those sources could be wrong, of course, but it's what I heard.

I really cant recall the exact quote, but it was something about Fox being in RF and Dempster is hoping nothing is hit to the right side of the field tonight or something. I had the game on in the background while playing Uno with my son, so I cant recall the exact phrasing. Nevertheless, its something that really didnt need to be said, and something I would expect from Marty Brennamen(sp) or some douche like that.

It came from Bruce Miles on his blog. He said that one of the reasons the Cubs were finding a tough time trading Fox was because of that it was becoming hard to shed the uncoachable label that he had developed.

Here's one quote from him:

His lack of a position hurts him badly, as does the perceived stubbornness to which mlp referred.

I haven't found the other one, but there was definitely even a stronger one than that somewhere from Bruce.

BTW, this is what mlp had said (I normally don't quote comments other than Bruce, but I know several of you respect mlp):

I think it isn't just about what's on the field. Jake, though a very likable guy by all accounts, has acquired a reputation for uncoachability. The Cubs worked with him for years to shorten his stroke when the count was against him and to be more selective in what he swung at; but at game time, he'd go right back to trying to hammer every pitch he saw out of the park. From everything I read this season, Fox seems to have matured in that regard; but it may be that a few months of listening to his coaches aren't enough to wipe that "uncoachable" tag off him.

Bruce has said that he still doesn't really have any value around the league even now.
