Well... except they didn't draft and develop all those guys...

Does this mean Jordan Schafer is sent back to AAA?

Heckuva move for the Braves, and it eliminates another Cub-killer from the NL Central.

This makes me curious about McLouth's long-term health. It seems like the Pirates could have gotten a bigger haul if they waited until the trade deadline.

so, does this mean McCutchen will be rockin the majors soon?

Personally, I hope so. Watching him play for the Indianapolis is a pretty enjoyable time. I would really like to see him be successful at the major league level, just not against the Cubs.

No parent who truly loves a child would ever give him the name "Gorkys."

Glad to see him out of the division. I like Pittsburgh selling high on him, but trading Atlanta for pitching prospects usually doesn't end well for the other team.

McClouth is a bit overrated. Good hitter, below average fielder. A nice complimentary player for a contender, but no star. His value will probably never be as high as it is right now.

The only thing that bothers me is that he has several years until he's arb-eligable, so why trade him now when he is a building block if the Pirates ever improve. I know their farm system isn't there yet, but at some point, you need to let your players develop through good and bad and hopefully reap the benefits of it down the road. If I was a Pirates fan, I'd be worried that they'd finally get a bunch of superb prospects to develop, and the team trades a few pieces to the puzzle a year too early, and the Pirates stay in mediocrity forever.

Honestly when do you see the Pirates being at least a .500 team again? 2020? longer? They are so far away even after 16+ years of losing seasons.

i am not going to pretend to know diddly squat about the pirates minor league system, but i honestly hope you are exaggerating for the team's sake...

that is a bloody long time to not put a decent product on the field, surely they can't be but about 5-7 years away at the most, no?

I dunno, the Pirates farm system is probably like middle of the road, but the point is, unless a bunch of their prospects happen to hit at the same time, none of the players they develop are going to be around long enough to help the Pirates get to .500 for a season. So its really just waiting for the year that the perfect storm hits and they get lucky.

But who knows, the Pirates GM is still relatively new enough to be implementing his plan for the team.

They have Andrew McCutchen, who I would assume would be coming up now.

Pedro Alvarez, who is struggling a bit in his first taste of pro ball.

Jose Tabata, who I think is a bust.

Brad Lincoln, a decent pitching prospect.

Plus these guys they just added.
