Did not expect that result going into the match.

I know Nadal got hurt midway through and I wouldn't have been surprised if a healthy Nadal comes back to win that match. But Wawrinka beat him down in the first set and looked really good.

Unless I missed someone, this is the lowest seed to win a men's major since the 2004 French Open.

Airing the French Open semifinals live? Why would NBC ever consider doing a thing like that. Rather air them starting two hours late instead.

Once again, the French Open is the worst.

Really confused on where to place Nadal in history. 14 GS, but only 5 are not from the French. And since 2010 he has only won 1 major that was not the French.

Very very highly. I put him near Pete Sampras probably around the top 5. His record at the French open is insane. He beat the GOAT In multiple grand slam finals at the height of his abilities on the other surfaces and winning 5 times on your weaker surfaces in an era that produced 2 other all time greats is an impressive legacy in itself without including his work at the French where he has dominating a major sporting event in a way that perhaps nothing else in any sport compares.

I might put fed and rafa one and two all time if it didn't seem weird that the two of them largely overlap. Sampras getting punished for not being elite on clay despite his dominance elsewhere. Fed being the greatest because he was definitely the second best clay court player in his era and of not for the fact he ran into nadals freakish ability on clay would have won career grand slams a few times over.

Borg Sampras and Nadal can be argued for second best in my opinion.

He's one of the five best because of the total number of majors and the career Slam. But he'll always be behind Federer for me because of how many of his majors were at the French and the lack of consistency Federer has. The consecutive Finals, semifinals and quarterfinals Federer reached are marks that are so much better than anyone else has ever done that they'll probably never be touched.

ETA:

Consecutive finals reached: Federer has separate streaks of 10 and 8. Next best is Nadal with 5. Nobody else has more than 4.

Consecutive semifinals reached: Federer has 23. Djokovic is second with 14, nobody else more than 10. Nadal's best is 5.

Consecutive quarterfinals reached: Federer has 36. Djokovic is second with 21, followed by Lendl with 14. Nadal is fourth with 11.

Borg has a 5 and a 6 GS finals streak. They are seperated by a loss in the quarters. So I'm that streak of 12 Grand slam appearances he won 7 lost in the final four times and had the loss in the quarters and that streak ended with his retirement. This may not count because he elected to joy play in the Australian which he likely would have also dominated because they played on grass. But Borg was definitely dominant. He loses points for never winning in flushing meadows but he ran into all time greats McEnroe and Connors during his era.

Federer won in 3 and Djokovic in 4 today. Should be a fun final.

Fed winning Sunday would be pretty storybook. He'd be the oldest modern era champion by over a year. It's be like Nicklaus at the 86 masters. Especially beating Novak.

That set was incredible. One break in the first 3 sets and 5 in the 4th. Federer's mental strength as seen in that set is just unreal.

Weve seen Novak do this from time to time. From a fitness standpoint I still have to favor him in this set due to Fed's age. Fed needs to step on his service games.

that said Federer is moving incredibly well right now.

That was a great final. Thought Federer was done when he was down 5-2 and thought he had no chance of breaking Djokovic at 5-3. Both guys served well and had a combined 143 winners to 56 errors.

Too bad for Federer but somebody had to lose.

Great comeback by Federer today. Lost the first two sets to Monfils and ran off three straight to move on to the quarters. Once Federer got the break to start the fifth it was over. Monfils was done at that point.

Still on course for a Federer-Djokovic final, though it didn't look that way a couple hours into the match.

This draw couldn't have been more perfect for Fed. Total lack of quality opponents in his path. He should be able to dispatch Cilic an hopefully nishikori and novak push the ball at each other for 5 hours and novak is beat down before the final. This is a great opportunity for federer to add another slam.

Djokavich is winning purely on physical prowess at this point. He is playing a retrieving style. I found myself rooting for Murray in their match because Murray was playing great attacking tennis while Djoker was pushing. I've never been a fan of novak and he is becomi. More annoying as time goes on. Allez federer.

The women's final should be pretty good. Woz is playing great and Gould give Serena a good match.
