I really don't see the Cubs becoming sellers. If they do, it will be much later in the season.

I don't see Lee going anywhere. Bad contract and no trade clause will prevent it.

Bradley just signed his deal. I don't see him being moved. There are only a handful of teams who could take on Soriano's contract and Zambrano will be going no where.

If the Cubs sell off, they will want to reload quickly for next season. That's another reason that none of the players you named would be moved.

The players most likely to be traded if the Cubs become sellers:

1. Harden. He's a FA at season's end. A team looking for a rental ace would have interest in Harden. Under the right circumstances, Harden might land us a decent prospect.

2. Gregg. He's also a FA at season's end. While he's been inconsistent, there are always teams looking for bullpen help. At best, he'd bring us a high ceiling, high risk prospect.

3. Reed Johnson- He'd be a decent bench option for a team looking to add an outfielder. He'd bring a marginal prospect in return.

Which of the crappy contracts can be dumped?

Here's who I'd like to see traded

Lee

Bradley

Zambrano

Soriano

Nobody is taking Lee's contract, or Soriano's.

Bradley actually could have some takers if he picks up.

The Cubs aren't trading Zambrano.

In all, it would be stupid for them to have a fire sale. That's not to say they couldn't/wouldn't move some guys if they could (and Vance nailed who would likely to be moved), but there's not going to be a big blowout sale.

No, no it wouldn't. I know you're an optimist but let's be real. This team hasn't won a playoff game together. I think it's time to rebuild and build up our farm system. If someone offers great prospects for one of our players and we continue to look like we have this week, you take the deal in a heartbeat. It's time to rebuild and build a world series champion.

Cubs arent going to have a fire sale. To sum up what Vance said, if were out of it come the dealine, we'll move some guys at the end of their contracts, but thats about it. Harden is the guy who could potentially bring us a real nice return as long as he stays relatively healthy between now and then. A fire sale suggests a rebuilding process. We have too many guys with big contracts to do that, and with Aramis in the lineup, this is an entirely different team. I am, however very curious to see what the Ricketts era brings, if and when that begins. Edited by Little Slide Rooter

Do you honestly think this team is capable of winning a World Series?

No Trade Clause

Hitting .176 and that 2011 option would have to be picked up

No Trade Clause

One of the five worst contracts in baseball

Some other names to toss on the pile...

1) Ted Lilly

Still has a year left on his deal and would provide meaningful innings and production to any team looking for rotation help.

2) Ryan Freel

Probably won't net anything, but hey.

3) Aaron Miles

His deal isn't terrible and some team could want him if they're in need of a super-sub scraptastic IFer.

lets trade some posters to grb for a p(oster)tbnl

i'm down with designating them for assignment and sending them to cubs.com or desipio and not getting anything in return.

Oh. I didn't realize we'd hit crazy time already. May is pretty early for that.

The Cubs are only one hot streak from being in the playoff picture again. We have to remember they are in the Central division and most of the teams are severely flawed. Just for fun though, if the Cubs did become sellers, I think they would have quite a few players that other teams would be interested in.

Fukudome -- Hendry couldn't get anything for him this winter, but the guy plays a pretty good CF and may be an ideal leadoff hitter for a team in the playoffs.

Lilly -- the amount of his contract was widely panned at the time of signing. But his performance over the last 2+ years has been terrific and with only 1 1/2 years left on his contract, it would be cheap enough for every team to get interested in.

Lee -- the Angels tried to trade for him over the winter, but he invoked his no-trade clause. He is also getting pretty hot at the moment. Because of his name and only one year remaining on his contract, some team would take a risk on him if he would waive his NTC. The better his numbers continue to get the more his value goes up.

Johnson -- Would make a nice bench player or CF for alot of teams.

Gregg -- maybe he would do better in a non-closer role

Heilman -- can't imagine anyone would want him, but hey the Mariners and Cubs bit this off season.

Miles -- maybe the Cards are in it, and want a SS/utility guy? (a guy can dream right?)

Bradley -- if Texas is still in it maybe they take him back hoping he will find the magic.

So maybe the Giants will take him?

If he can play basketball the Knicks would be interested.

I'd love to dump Miles into a flaming bottomless pit.

How is a bottomless pit flaming?

You must carefully plan out your Miles-destruction fantasies.

Good lord, The only way the cubs start to be sellers is if they go into a tremendous nosedive or the cardinals/brewers start to run away with the division.

And neither is happening.

Get off the ledge people they are less than 5 ****ing games out for Ivan's sake.

If worse comes to worse (hope not), these players better be available:

Harden: Could get a very good prospect in return if he starts pitching like he should. Team like the Angels/Red Sox/Braves would want him.

Dempster: Ditto^^.

Lee: I'm sure if there was a very good team wanting him who has a legit shot of making a run would want him.

Lilly: Some team will need a quality pitcher. Braves make sense.

I'm thinking that this is just a slump and we will be fine, but this is now 8 games, and it's horrible. The line-up leaves much to be excited about, and Lou looks like he doesnt give a f***.

i'm a big fan of not going too crazy about what's going on, and you're definitely right that no one else is running away, but losing 8 in a row to pittsburgh, san diego, and st. louis could absolutely at least be the beginning of a tremendous nosedive.
