God, you're dumb Mojo.

Then he can just fall down the middle and forever avoid the flames.

Don't take out the crappiness of your Miles-pit on me.

In all, it would be stupid for them to have a fire sale. That's not to say they couldn't/wouldn't move some guys if they could (and Vance nailed who would likely to be moved), but there's not going to be a big blowout sale.

No, no it wouldn't. I know you're an optimist but let's be real. This team hasn't won a playoff game together. I think it's time to rebuild and build up our farm system. If someone offers great prospects for one of our players and we continue to look like we have this week, you take the deal in a heartbeat. It's time to rebuild and build a world series champion.

Come on.

Do you honestly think this team is capable of winning a World Series?

Yes.

Depends on how you look at it. If we played a 7 game series against a top AL team, we'd probably lose, but we'd at least have a shot to take 4 (with a healthy Harden). Getting the chance to play that 7 game series is looking less and less likely.

It depends on what team you're talking about. Are you talking about the team that has Fontenot playing 3B or Ramirez? Are you talking about the team that has 3-4 regulars struggling to get above .200 or the team that has Lee, Soto, Fontenot, and Bradley hitting close to what's expected of them? Obviously the team that on the field right now, hitting and pitching the way they are, has no chance of making the playoffs (let alone winning the WS).

Whats the point of rebuiling? I understand getting rid of guys who will be free agents next year(Harden, Johnson, Heilman) if were out of it when the time comes, but getting rid of Lilly makes no sense. Getting rid of Lee makes less sense considering wed probably get next to nothign in return and still end up picking up most of the 2010 salary. Dempsters just got a fresh 4 years deal, which wed probably be paying the bulk of for the next 3 2/3 years and and whatever wed get in return wouldnt be worth it. The fact of the matter is, we wouldnt get enough salary relief to sign solid replacements, and the guys in the minors were counting on wont be ready until Lee and Lillys contracts are up anyway. If were out of it in July of next season, then I could see guys like Lee, Lilly, and Bradley traded, but not this year.

I am going to post something that I already know will not happen, but........

Soriano is off to a good start. He has been healthy. We probably already have gotten the best years out of his contract. He will be a good bat for several teams looking to upgrade offense. I think if Hendry was serious about getting out from under a large portion of his remaining contract, now is the time. The return would not be great, but if he wanted out I think it could happen. It has already been mentioned, but I think San Fran sees themselves as a team that is one bat away from winning that division. I could easily see them taking Soriano and contract if we throw them 15 million.

I already know this will not happen because, the Cubs are always in "contention". Just saying I think its possible if Hendry really wanted out.

He is?

.253/.318/.511

Not bad, but not good either, especially not with the contract. He's basically OPSing at the same rate as the average NL left fielder. I'm not sure any team would consider taking on that contract, which was signed in a much different economic environment (but still one where it was clear Soriano would never live up to the full value).

I'd bet you could get Minaya to take Soriano. Fonzy strikes me as the kind of high-profile pick-up Minaya craves. Their OF production isn't all that great beyond Beltran and the ancient Sheff, who I believe is not playing every day. Plus they need a starter.

Here's a blockbuster for you:

Mets receive: Harden and Soriano

Cubs receive: Fernando Martinez (OF), Wilmer Flores (SS) and Jenrry Mejia (RHP)

You can platoon Hoff and Fox in LF until Martinez is ready. I bet they could combine for as much as production as Fonzy has so far this season. No need to rush Martinez or start his "arby clock".

Man, I like Soriano but I'd almost want us to fall out of contention if we can deal some of these guys. Alfonso, specifically. Of the guys with big contracts, I really only like Ramirez as a guy to (re)-build around.

But as many have noted, it's going to be really hard to move any of these guys, for various reasons.

I can't see the Cubs becoming sellers. The NL Central is not going to have a run-away winner (unless the Cubs get it together) and the expectation level is too high to start over again.
