I gotta think the Cubs should win this one tonight however, didn't Ortiz shut the Cubs down for a few innings during the season opening series?

By the way, can anyone remember why game 5, a day game, of the 1984 NLCS was played in San Diego when the Cubs had HFA?

The 1984 NLCS was a best of five and San Diego got homefield advantage based on the rotation they used at the time.

Baseball goes 2-3-2 on home/road games. It's kinda dumb, I like basketball's setup better. Although I despise basketball and its playoffs.

that format didn't come about until 1985. In 1984, both Championship Series were a 5 game series

But, in 1984, the NLCS was a 5 game series.

I nominate Butters to be the designated game thread starter.

Definitely for Rich Harden starts, as long as he posts the pic he posted yesterday.

Didn't the NL West get HFA in 1983? Meaning the NL East winner should have had HFA in 1984?

Mike Hampton and Russ Ortiz in the same rotation? Is this the 2003 NLDS?

In 1983 the first 2 were in LA and the second 2 were in Philly. Given the 2-3 format they used for 1984, I assume they did that in 83 and were prepared for a game 5 in Philly if necessary.

Gah, when can we just shove the Astros into the American League? Who would miss them? Why do the Cubs of all teams have to beat 5 other teams to win their division? Although we would miss heckling Berkman.

Because then, according to MLB, there would have to be an interleague game scheduled EVERY DAY!

God forbid.

This post makes me want to see Berkman run from a lightning strike again.

Lou complaining and expounding for 5 mins. in pregame interview about the Cubs not winning by large enough margins and how great it is when you really clobber the other team. That's the spirit! Although I may boo if I feel the Cubs are not far enough ahead, he won't like that.

I don't know which I like better: That clip, or the clip of A-Rod slapping the ball away like a girl during the 2004 ALCS.

When I hear Berkman I think of him playing dead when he got beaned in 2004.

At least A-Rod was trying to make something happen, unbelievably stupid as it was. Berkman somehow thought a lightning strike was going to seek out his necklace over the hundreds of tons of steel on the building he was in.

I agree. People say that from time to time. I figure the fact that we are the only big market team in the division evens out the disadvantage of having to beat out 5 other teams instead of 4 (or 3 in the AL West). But just looking at the average wins it takes to win the NL Central vs. other divisions, I don't see how it's any harder to win the Central than the East or West.

Are you volunteering to coordinate a feasible schedule?

At least one team in each league gets an off day each day. Who wants to go to work every single weekend day for months at a time?
