joe johnson is underrated because he played in a third-rate school in a second-rate basketball conference and has toiled with the Hawks for the last few years. I know I'm not breaking any news here, but he's really good.

Since when has Arkansas been a 3rd rate school and the SEC a 2nd rate basketball conference?

Not a chance in hell

Absolutely. AI is everything that Bulls don't like in their players.

Bulls HAVE to sign or trade for a SG though, right? IF Gordon is gone, the only SG's listed on the roster are Lindsey Hunter (lol), Demarcus Nelson and Anthony Roberson.

How would AI fit? He's 6' tall in shoes, so he isn't going to guard other teams' SG's, and he isn't going to displace Rose. I can't imagine he'd be happy coming off the bench.

Which means AI to the Bulls makes absolutely NO SENSE at all.

As for SG I think I much rather see Hinrich and Salmons split time there (depending on matchup) instead of bringing in some crappy or over-the-hill SG that doesn't help the Bulls.

Yeah, I guess if we think Salmons can guard other teams' 2's then he'll be there, as the roster is awfully forward heavy right now

Salmons can't catch and shoot, which is bad for a SG, but he and Hinrich can man it well enough.

All of this should lead everyone to conclude it's just going to mean D Rose gets the ball in his hands in Wadeian proportions. Fine by me.

There's a big uproar on RealGM about this cause someone that reported Ariza to the Rockets and Artest to the Lakers said the exact same thing.

That would be an absolute disaster if we were to land AI for a year.

I'd be fine with AI at the mid-level veteran's exception, but that is it. They should be saving the serious dough for the 2010 FA class. Next season might not be the big step fwd we'd like, but I am willing to wait if it means landing Wade or Johnson and Bosh.

EDIT: His PER was just below 16 this past season, but the year before it is was over 20. The whole Detroit team sucked last season and he was a terrible fit there to begin with. We could very much use a SG who can get to the rim, taking the pressure off of Rose in that regrad. Then you can use Hinrich as the 6th man and designated spot-up jump shooter and have the luxury oif bringing Salmons or Deng off the bench. That's a lot of options.

AI doesn't replace Gordon in the strictest sense since his game is very different, but one season of him would be fine.

From what I've read, unless they get creative they won't have room for two max contracts.

So many teams will have a ton of cap space next summer and the ones that don't get LeBron/Wade/Amare/Bosh will go crazy to make sure they don't strike out.

We absolutely need to find a taker for Deng to ensure that we'd have enough cap room for two max deals.

They've tried. They were offering Tyrus and Deng to anyone who would listen before the draft. There's a reason nothing happened.

Oh PLEASE say no to AI. Even talk on this thread is scaring me, although I highly doubt that the Bulls would even think about him.

No wonder the Pistons were so thrilled with Gordon. They just had AI (and were also dumb enough to trade Billups for him).

i dont know, it just makes sense to me. chicago needs a stop gap scoring option at 2 guard and AI and gordon are sort of vaguely similar in terms of pluses/minuses.

the bulls want to save up for 2010, but they dont want to just throw out a nobody roster and tank this year. they need to be competitive. im probably wrong and they'll just hope salmons can hold it down. i just thought it would be funny

I dont think AI is a possibility after hearing KC Johnson on TV the other day. He said the Bulls refuse to pay the luxury tax, and they are only 2mil or a little less than 2mil away from having to pay the luxury tax. KC said the team you see now, is the team we will see opening day, barring any trades becoming available.

I am fine with this. I'd rather save money for next season's amazing FA class rather than pay the tax to acquire aging former stars or middling players.

I cant stand Iversons game, it worked good in Philly because they had no one else to shoot and build the offense around and they played great defense, but put him on a team that doesnt rely on him controlling the ball and gearing the offense around is a bad idea. Iverson is a terrible shooter, Ben Gordon blows him away in that department. This team needs shooters more than creators and ball hogs.

Apparently the Bulls are thinking about bringing back Jannero Pargo. He played last season overseas. Not a big deal, but he does have some value as a scorer off the bench.

I like it. A floor spacer and a scorer off the bench is going to be needed to give us flexibility since Hinrich is basically a defensive stopper and part time offensive threat at this point.
