this "the season's over" stuff is starting pretty early, even for illini fans

Even if this season isn't over, it's more just unhappy with where we are. I don't have a lot of faith in Weber running our program. I really dislike our offense, I know it worked in '05, but Deron Williams running any offense would work. Not much we can do though. As Sully said he's the guy we are sticking with.

Embarrassing.

The loss and IG.

How is what I said embarassing? How many weekends did we have like this under Self or Kruger? Hell we didn't even have weekends like this under Lon when he was having to rebuild the program. Weber's 44 - 30 since Bill Self's recruits left town...59% winning percentage, nothing to write home about for somebody coaching Illinois. It's also been 4 years since he won an NCAA Tournament game. I maybe in the minority here, but I just don't think the guy is that good of a coach.

Actively rooting for a stud recruit to go to another program.

Flat out making stuff up regarding the freshmen. Weber is starting 2 freshmen guards over 2 juniors, and you're freaking out that he's benching Paul when he gets out of control. I can't stand Jordan's offense as much as you can't, but you can't have Paul out there driving in and throwing up terrible shots, all while playing suspect defense.

These losses SUCKED but you have us out of the tournament because of one bad weekend? You don't think we'll make the NIT because of 2 early season losses? Lon Kruger was a very good coach, but I don't believe he was going to be able to recruit at a level to keep us good when Peoria dried up. Bill Self was a very good coach, but was likely to cause issues with the NCAA if he stayed on(strictly my opinion)

You(and many other Illinois fans) need to get over this BFF Bill Self thing. The way you talk about him is as twisted as those fans that turn him into Satan. He's the ex that treated you like [expletive] that you keep crawling back to for one night, and then she steals your wallet on the way out. Part of the reason recruiting went where it did is because of your boy grabbing the studs that he had been in on before ducking town. Webster did the same thing at Kentucky. I'm not implying that there's anything wrong with them doing it(though if Webster was recruiting for Kentucky while on our payroll, obviously it's an issue), but it's a big reason why we whiffed on so many.

Weber may not be the guy for the job, but you're freaking out because of 2 bad losses. These losses happen to every program.(Even your boy Bill has his list of losses to mid-majors) If the recruiting hadn't turned around, I'd be leading the charge with my pitchfork held high. But recruiting has turned around, and even though Weber is a bit of a dork, and not a slick salesman, he is the one who brought these kids in. He's the one who the kids are coming to play for. I'd say you owe it to him to coach his recruits that are on the level of those St. Bill brought in to the program.

I just can't believe somebody can beat the Bruce is a horrible coach drum so soon after last season. So many issues people have with Weber appear to be cosmetic. Oh, he's dorky, he has a bad voice, he has marker on his face, he doesn't run the ball up and down the court. Everyone makes the Self toupee jokes, I really wonder if he'd have the same cult of Illini fans if he didn't have it. A bald hillbilly isn't quite as appealing to the masses.

I don't care about the voice or any of that. I just see too many patterns that he repeats. We get up and then we just sit on the ball. It sure works well for us instead of trying to just finish teams out. Think of how many losses that we have had that were very similar to last nights. Up by 5 with the ball under 2 minutes. That should almost never happen. But, it does to us a lot.

I also don't like the fact that he's benching a talent but allows Jordan to play, who was just as out of control last night, really how many times did the moron try to throw a jump pass? Plus he owes nothing to Jordan, who quit on the team once already. Play the talented freshman. We will still lose some games, but at least then we will lose while the fresh are gaining experience.

As for the Beal thing, I am tired of watching talented kids sit while untalented ones play. It happened a lot the last few years. He loves to play the kids who are liabilities on offense(Chester Frazier) and not those that are on defense(DMac). Guess what, you have to score to win. So while Brandon Paul make a mistake and play out of control, you have to play him 30 minutes a night. You wouldn't be in this boat had you recruited anyone for his spot the few years before. Also sitting him the last 8 minutes after he went on a 7-0 run on his own last night was insane.

Oh and the Bill Self thing, we lost a pretty great coach. I know we might have got in trouble with the NCAA, but I doubt it.

Recruiting guru on Phog says Beal decision will be at 10 in the AM tomorrow, and he says while the Beal camp hasn't leaked anything, it "appears" to be Florida or KU. He's also saying he could be wrong about that.

I love the UIC Pavilion.

Me too. I also love having the best college hoops team in the state *ducks*

If Mirkovic can remember how to play, they might just have a chance.

AND BEAL SHOCKS THE WORLD AND PICKS MIZZOU

My Aggies beat two Top 20 teams (Clemson and Minnesota) and played a Top 10 team (West Virginia) tight the whole way in the 76 Classic this weekend. If we could make FT's, we may have won all 3. I expect to be in the Top 25 when the new polls are released.

Brad Beal has chosen Florida. What's Plan B for Illinois? Kick it up a notch in their pursuit of Randle? Offer Devin Langford from Alabama? Hang on to the scholarship for 2012? Honestly, I really really wanted Beal, but I'm not too disappointed. Paul, Richardson, Bertrand, Head, Richmond, and Abrams, assuming they're all still around, give UI plenty of talent at the 1-3 spots come 2011-12.

Well the only way that would've worked out more perfectly is if he somehow picked Mizzou. Whew.

Yeah kinda seems like a let down. I was expecting one of our set of posters to be happy. What the hell is going on with Kansas' recruiting lately?

I think Randle will end up at Purdue. He has been their number one target all along, and Illinois has been distracted with Beal. I also wouldn't discount Iowa State in that recruitment yet. Going hard after Langford seems to be the next move, seeing as he reached out to the staff about coming to Illinois (read this somewhere, too lazy to find source), and he wants to play in the Big Ten.

That's what I think as well. I don't see Randle ending up with us. Also I am very glad that Beal isn't at KU.

have fun at a school that hasn't made the tourney in two years, brad

2 titles in the last 5 years though.

Yeah, but how many Helms titles do they have? That's what I thought.

It's hard to complain too much, since had two 5* and a 4* last year, five 4* in 2008, two 4* the year befor, etc.

Still, it seems like we can't get an early commit from any top recruit. I get losing Barnes to UNC. UNC is the premier program out there right now. But losing Beal to UF kind of bugs me. We really need Lamb, Selby, or Knight. I'm hoping it's Knight.

True, just seems odd that a lot of these kids are going elsewhere. What was the kid that chose FSU? Snear? I hear that Florida might lead for Knight too, and Uconn for one of the other.
