How long will the organiation keeo blaming it on injuries?

I do think people are going too far with the "we're done" stuff. We're 10-11. It's really ugly right now and this team has some very real problems, but they're not this bad.

I do hope this will put to rest the "I'm not worried abut the Cardinals" BS that's been going around (You know who you are.)

you can blame it on injuries all you want but when you had a guy who literally played RF and 3rd better than most but traded him for practically nothing (when you had a injury prone 3rd baseman and going after a big baby right fielder) , you have no one to blame but yourself.

To me, beyond everything else, I have to ask what has gathright done to lou and why not put ramirez on the dl. Gathright could have, for maybe the only time ever been the difference in the game. Maybe he gets to second when bradley is thrown out. If that move is made, he makes the catch that kosuke doesn't. Not to mention that he probably should have been used to run for Z. Then, why not dl ramirez if he can't even hit where johnson did. If the guy can play at all, then you use him because the fact is that he is the best hitter available. The managerial decisions are mind boggling, the hitting has been pathetic, the defense has been atrocious, and the bullpen has been sad. On that note, when can we play Hoffpauir, move fontenot back to second and maybe, just maybe find anyone who can allow us to have a different third baseman, allowing miles to be relegated to the bench where he is still under qualified, but hurts the team less.

The best I can offer is taking the dark, angry rage and deep, deep disappointment spewing forth in some sort of unholy murk and finger paint words from it.

BULLPEN... WALKS... BAD

OFFENSE... CAN'T... HIT

I HATE THE [expletive] [expletive] [expletive] [expletive] mother [expletive] son of a [expletive]ing [expletive] Marlins

You don't know how much I had to cough up to have enough to fingerpaint the last point there.

While you are probably right with Gathright, I'd probably take the same stance as Lou and pretend like he isn't on the team in protest for him actually being on the team in the first place.

In such a case, you make it so that said player is no longer on the team. Bring up Jake mother loving Fox already. So what if he cant play defense, Gathright has played like 2 innings of defense all season. Lou has gotten better players than Gathright off the team in the past so I dont see why he cant get rid of him.

It would be nice if he'd take the same stance on cotts, lee, and miles at minimum as well. I personally was as much against gathright being on the team as anybody, and I know that you were being somewhat sarcastic, but like i say, it was one of the very few chances to use him. Gathright also looked like he didn't know what was going on when zambrano was on first. when you already have a cancer like bradley beginning to cause enough trouble that the team has had to talk to him about his attitude, I guess that Lou figures that you might as well try to ruffle the feathers of as many players as possible.

Lou has been just as bad or worse than the worst player on the field during this stretch. Arguments can be made as far as who the worst has actually been, and it seems like it's some sort of contest between them at this point.

But, you are correct. To be honest, I wasn't really watching the game all that closely until it became apparent that we would be playing the top of the 10th with a back up catcher manning the hot corner.

I can't pay all that much attention to them while they are playing this bad. I'm trying to quit smoking right now, for cryin' out loud.

Everyone keeps saying "we're not this bad"... What does everyone have to base that theory on? Nothing.

Our bullpen is horrendous. Marmol - Another 2 walks tonight. Gregg, Heilman, and Guzman - atrocious.

The offense SUCKS! Over their past 10 games, they have scored a whopping 38 runs, or 3.8 a game (keep in mind there were two games where they scored 10 and 11).

This team is simply not good. They overachieved last season, and this year they are underachieving. I'd say we are an 80-85 win ballclub as we stand right now - a far cry from the 'best team in the NL' or the 'Team to beat in the NL' as everyone has stated.

If the bullpen doesn't improve, then we'll be lucky to win 75 games.

Watching the Cubs lately has been like staring into the Ark of the Covenant. "Keep your eyes shut, don't look!" Oh why can't I take Dr. Jones's advice."

What do I base the theory on? It's called putting your fandom aside and being objectionable. They were never going to win 97 games. They've had basically everything go wrong so far and they're around .500.

Does this team have issues? Absolutely? Could they tank? If they catch some bad breaks, absolutely. But if you look at the roster of this team and the Cardinals and Brewers, they are still better. The offense might not be stacked like last year, but they should be above average still, assuming they stay relatively healthy.

The bullpen is the thing I'm concerned about.

Sure this offense is stacked but then this happens

Ramirez gets hurt and Fontenot takes 3rd,

Bradley is a baby who gets injured once a week

Miles takes over for Fontenot

Lee cant hit

Hoffpauir can but Lou hates his defense so now

Soriano

Fukudome

Lee

Fontenot

Soto

Theriot

Johnson

Miles

Pitcher

Yup there is nothing at all scary about that lineup

Just saw the highlights, what a joke. Theriots D hhurts us once again, learn to catch the damn ball

I'm thinking SS and 2nd are the prime spots to upgrade offensively in that order if there's anyone out there and the payroll can be upped if needed. I'd say 1B as well only if the Cubs are willing and able to eat a chunk of Lee's contract.

That was not a fun game to be at. Also, Theriots throw in the 10th: WOW. Not that it mattered at that point but it was Jacque Jones-esque.

Hey at least the Bulls won!

Hendry's dumb moves have finally caught up with the team. This team is an absolute mess. The bullpen is a disaster, the bench is terrible, and Miles is now my least favorite player. What makes things worse is that the minor leagues are absolutely barren.

Please complete the sale of the Cubs soon, so we can get a real GM.

The Cubs are just not any fun to watch right now. The downside of their offseason moves was losing depth, and it seems like they want to jam that point down everyone's throat with the injuries(Ramirez, Bradley) and unexpected hideousness(Soto; Bradley; Lee and Dempster despite lowered expectations; Gregg and Marmol). The good news is that despite an extended stretch of ugly and uninspired baseball they're only a game below .500. Marshall continues to impress as well. For all the lamenting that has been done about Wood and justifiably about DeRosa, Marshall is making the Peavy non-deal look good by outpitching him thus far by quite a bit.

Can someone with a better knowledge of defensive metrics tell me how the Cubs are doing defensively compared to last year? I know last year the Cubs had a surprising FRAA and everyone expected it to fall closer to expected level this series. It's hard to tell that with the naked eye but it sure seems so this year. I would be willing to bet some of our struggles are related to that.
