Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat reports that the Cowboys are interested in moving up to 13 to select defensive back Earl Thomas of Texas.

ESPN did a mock draft with the columnist of every city represent their team. By the end of the first rd there were a couple of first rd talents that were available in the 2nd rd; Kareem Jackson or Alabama, and Demaryius Thomas of GT still available. Would it be worth it to move into the 2nd rd to get one of these kids, or is there a player who could drop out of the 1st rd that anybody here thinks would be worth moving up for? (I realize the Bears would have to trade Olsen and dip into next year's draft picks to make it happen.)

I doubt Earl Thomas is available at that pick and if he is the 49ers would be smart to take him.

To be honest, after the first 5 guys or so (Berry, Suh, G McCoy, Okung, McClain), I don't see much separation from guy #6 to guys in the early to mid 2nd round.

I would agree with that. The top handful of guys have seperated themselves. The reason this class is considered deep is that there are going to be 10 or so guys taken outside of the 1st rd that would in most years be 1st rd picks. I think after the mid-2nd rd the class is pretty run of the mill in terms of talent.

I think it's even deeper than that. I agree that there will be a number of guys who are taken in the second round who are 1st round guys most years, but I think the 2nd round talent is deep enough to push some 2nd round guys to the 3rd round. There can be some real value picks later in this draft if teams recognize them.

Considering the Cowboys never trade up that alone would be a surprise to me. I would rather trade up to get Dez Bryant but Thomas would make more sense from a need stand point.

More interesting draft rumors, this time from Michael Lombardi, who appears to have very good connections. Highlights:

Some people in the league whom I spoke to Tuesday believe if the Redskins take a tackle at No. 4, it will be Trent Williams, not Russell Okung.

I've heard this previously, so I'm thinking there's merit to it.

Also:

Every team I talk to wants to move down, and few want to move up. Green Bay, Philadelphia and New England might want to move up for the right player

Vikings draft plans were shaken up a bit today. 90% of the mock's had us taking a CB in the 1st but they just signed Lito Sheppard which probably takes that out of the picture.

If Pouncey falls he's probably the pick but I don't expect that. Same with Clausen. I would like Mays if he falls but if none of those 3 are there, they'll try to trade down. Since everyone wants to do that, it gets tricky. Some people think Childress likes Tebow.

I watched a lot of Alabama last year and never did I think Kareem Jackson was better than Arenas.

Half the time I saw them play Arenas looked like the best player on the field with Ingram being the best in the rest of the games. Not sure why he's not rated higher.

Kareem Jackson is definately a better CB prospect then Arenas. I love both, but I think Javy gets slightly overrated because ESPN showcases the plays he makes. The coaching staff have constantly said the last couple of years that KJ was Bama's best CB.

Javy isn't rated higher because he ran a very mediocre 4.68/40 at the combine. Combined that with decent cover skills, average athlethicism, and ok hip rotation (hip rotation is very important when you are a DB) and you will see why Arenas is projected in the 3rd-5th rd. KJ is the complete opposite. Arenas is more quick then fast, and IMO, he's prolly a nickleback in the pros.

Since Jerry Jones bought the team they have been one of the most active teams in draft day trades. I read somewhere today that Dallas has made 51 draft day trades since Jones bough the team in '89. I don't know how many of those trades resulted in the Cowboys moving up but I would guess a good amount of them were.

Gosselin's last mock. His is usually the most accurate of the mocks.

Some key points.

He has Clausen sliding all the way to the Vikings. Dex Bryant falls the the Cowboys. Buffalo taking Dan Williams. Demaryius Thomas going to the Dolphins.

They are very active, but I would say that a very high majority were trading down to get extra picks. Jones loves having extra picks.

He has a lot of stretches in that draft including Earl Thomas down to #22. I can't imagine Bryant being the 2nd WR taken, but I would love it.

I agree that there are a number of surprises, but he has historically been really good on nailing a lot of the picks.

We'll see how it shakes out this year. I think if Thomas is still there at 18-20, the Cowboys are going to move up and get him. He fits more of a need than Bryant. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cowboys try to move up for either player, but I don't think they will make a massive move. Maybe 6-8 spots, but that would be it.

the biggest stretch is Mathews to Seattle; it just doesn't make any sense. for all his talk about needing a full-time back, they don't – Forsett is really quite good already

I'm surprised Arenas ran that slowly. I'm sure he can get be a 4.5 type of guy which is fine for a CB in the right system.

He does look a little stiff in the hips but it's surprising that a guy who is such a dominant punt returner is just average athletically.

Another group of rumors from Lombardi, really interesting stuff here. Highlights:

I know Miami wants to move down and Dallas might want to move up — if it can include Marcus Spears or Bobby Carpenter in a deal. Maybe not both, but a combination of players and picks. The Dolphins would like to pick DT Dan Williams if he’s available when they move down.

Many people in the NFL believe the draft will start with Washington at the No. 4 pick. No one really has a feel for what the ‘Skins will do, and they can head in a number of different directions. But I keep hearing offensive tackle is not one of the positions they’ll pick — no smoke screen. I have a hunch, and it’s only a hunch, that it might be safety Eric Berry.

I hear OT Bryan Bulaga will not be a top-10 pick, but he’s loved in San Francisco at No. 13, and the Packers might be moving up to get him.

Very well could be true. I don't know one way or the other but what I do know is Jones is known as the top wheeler and dealer and is almost always open to trading to get what he wants whether that is down or up. I will never be surprised by the fact they made a trade on draft day. I may be surprised by how much they give up or how much they get in the trade but not surprised by the fact they are making a deal.

Yes please.

With the signing of Lito, I think the Vikings have convinced teams that if they REALLY want Tebow (or Jimmy if he falls) they'll have to trade up ahead of them or make a deal with them.

I [expletive] love draft day.
