I'm afraid Bruce Campbell's draft stock is going up too much to where he won't be available for the Cowboys.

He's an OT who ran a 4.85 and benched (I believe) 34 reps. He has Raiders written all over him.

So many workout freaks, so few picks.

what a waste of time the combine is for QB's. I don't think any of the big guys are throwing

Yep and its complete bull. I think they need to require that anyone who wants to attend must do every drill unless they have a legit injury. Every prospect would still go because the interviews are as important as the drills. Also anyone who wasn't injured and skipped all together would probably be looked down upon by teams as someone scared or someone who has something to hide.

Why should players be forced to take part in drills that all too often overshadow more important things like how good they are at the game of football, therefore costing those that don't do well at drills millions of dollars? Good luck getting that through with the union.

I don't expect it to ever happen but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the union. I could be wrong but the Combine is a separate event that is invitation only and done on a volunteer basis and thus the union has no say in what happens whatsoever.

You're probably right, but requiring that drills be done would just decrease attendance at the combine, and the NFL doesn't want the combine to be less relevant.

It'd decrease starpower at the combine. And honestly, I doubt the ratings are high enough that there would be that big of a drop. Casual fans almost certainly don't watch it, only the more obsessive fans like me and others on the board. With guys like McCoy, Bradford, Tebow, etc. already not throwing, I don't see a big dropoff in ratings if they don't bother to show.

Also it'd give opportunities to players who very easily could be there (Crompton, for example) but are not.

Many GM's and coaches have said that one-on-one interviews tell you the most about prospect. I remember reading one GM last year (it was a long time GM but can't remember who) that he doesn't even watch the drills and allows his scouts to handle all scouting. All he cared about was the interviews. If I remember correctly Polian is one of the big supporters of the interviews.

The first few years top prospects may skip the Combine if they are required to do all drills but advisers, agents and athletes would learn that skipping would be a bad idea. I think teams would hold it against the prospect to an extent. It would at the least be a negative and make the teams question the prospect which is all it takes sometimes to drop from No. 1 or from the top 10.

LSU WR/HB Trindon Holliday ran a 4.22 40 today. I believe that's faster than Chris Johnson's last year.

Holliday is only like 5'5, though.

Correction:

Holliday's time was unofficial. His official 40 time was a 4.34. CJ's record is still intact.

The biggest guy is probably Tony Pike. I am very interested to see Pike throw and also John Skelton. He's been getting a lot of hype from some expert types (Wes Bunting, mainly) and I'm interested to see what he can do.

you mean like a separated shoulder, a bruised delt, or torn toe tendons?

Dexter McCluster outbenching Ryan Matthews is one of the things I wasn't expecting to see.

Speaking of the bench press, how about Mitch Petrus?

Golden Tate ran a 4.36. That ought to help his stock.

He's doing a good job of managing expectations. Tate basically said he expected to run a decent 4.5 time and ended up running sub 4.4.

As opposed to the 99% of guys (some of whom have concerns about their speed) who say they expect to run in the 4.4s and end up running 4.7.

I hope he doesn't jump into the first. I believe I said in the college football forum that I think he is destined to be a very good pro WR. He just seems to know how to get open. His hands need work but he wasn't a WR until recently so they should improve. I think he is a matchup nightmare though due to speed, agility and power. I would very pleased and hope the 49ers take him in the 2nd but I highly doubt we draft any receivers any higher than round three due to having Davis, Crabtree and Morgan.

Well, I guess that 40 time killed any hope of Tate falling to Carolina in round 2...

Good for him. He deserves to be picked high and will be a very solid pro.
