Now that were almost 20% into the season, how long before a bad start starts to become more than just that, because between Milton and Soto, we have 2 important players who were still waiting on anything from.

Someone in the game thread tonight posted a report that he heard that said that Soto is more hurt than the Cubs are letting on, and to not expect 2008 numbers from him this year at all.

At this point, I'm not expecting anything remotely close.

I'd be happy with .260/.330/.450 at this point. He's still a pretty good catcher behind the plate.

People have to remember that after May 18th of last year, his stat line for the rest of the year was .269/.336/.459/.795. This is more likely the type of pro Geovany Soto will be, not the Geo that lit up the NL in April 2008 before pitchers figured out how to pitch him.

I haven't been expecting superstar Soto. I'd settle for a tolerable Soto at this point.

He's got to shed the blubber.

Id settle for tolerable Michael Barrett at this point.

Just throwing this out there

Ramirez' injury is yet another reason you take the suspension when you can and wont affect the team, now with his injury and this possible suspension, yup, exactly......

Posted
And it could have been zero games if he just did what's best for the team.

So you're saying that we wouldn't have to worry about missing Bradley and Ramirez at the same time if he had taken his suspension a week ago, when Ramirez was missing a week with an injury?

Manuel got a 1 game suspension for a cap bill bumping of an ump. I can't see how they're not going to decrease Milton's to a single game. Either way, I don't see it at a significant loss by appealing.

That is irrelevant, because Bradley was injured anyway.

No but it's more magnified.

How? Two games without Bradley and Ramirez is the same now as it was a week ago.

I'm saying the fact that he has to miss 2 games is more magnified now that we're already missing one of our big bats in the lineup.

Ramirez was out with an injury then, too. He played 3 games between injuries.

The point is, they were also without Ramirez earlier when people were calling for Bradley to serve the suspension. So this is not any different. The Cubs are without Aram now, they were without Aram then.

I've been out of the loop since late last week. Did they ever rule on his appeal? I thought I read somewhere that a decision was expected last Friday.

Bruce Levine said in his blog it should come down today, but hes been saying that for like 3 days so who knows.

It was hard to tell from the video on cubs.com, but did Bradley point to his ear after his mammoth home run? It almost looked like a taunt to the fans, like 'I can't hear you booing now, M#$@@ F#$@$!' Am I imagining things?

You saw it right and I say good for him. I love the Cubs but of any fanbase of professional sports, Cub fans are the most repulsingly annoying and ignorant of them all. Embarrassing.

Talk about hypocrites and that's basically what Bradley's gesture was about. He was booed mercifully in his previous at bat and then all of a sudden the minions want a curtain call? Priceless. Like when Lee begrudgingly took a curtain call last week when he hit his GS, he didn't really want to do it because he's been booed all year. These players are human after all and if anyone thinks booing a player is going to make them better or give them any kind of incentive to get better, you're a moron.

I never thought it'd be possible, but Cub fans reputation is getting worse and worse every year. I also don't find it hard to believe why some people think a good amount of Cub fans are racist.

Actually, him putting his hand up to his ear was quite the opposite. From today's game thread.

Anybody see Miltons little thing towards the crowd? Put his hand up to his ear to hear the cheers and started shaking his head lol. I love this guy

This is what the Trib said about the gesture:

After hitting a monster shot that nearly landed in the upper portion of the center-field bleachers Tuesday night at Wrigley Field, Milton Bradley pressed his index finger against his ear as he strolled toward the dugout.

Booed after a strikeout in the fourth inning, Bradley apparently wanted the crowd of 39,963 to know his hearing was just fine, thank you.

"Nice to hear some cheers for once," Bradley said. "I didn't come here to suck. I know I've sucked so far, but give me some love, you know what I'm saying? I am a Cub."

In Philly, they boo mercilessly, so that's one place that's worse than Chicago.

I think the booing comes way too early and often these days, but to call Cubs fans ignorant is, well, just plain ignorant. Cubs fans are sick & tired of not winning and have decades of frustrations built up. I don't condone most of the booing, but I certainly understand it.

Boston and New York do the same thing. Pretty much any big market fan base that cares (so that elminates the LA Dodgers).
