I believe they often try and time the appeals hearings to a team's visit to NY, which means Milton might not have his appeal heard until early September.

That'd be wonderful if they heard it then and he was suspended for two playoff games because of it.

That wouldn't be a possibility.

this appeals system is so old fashioned. can't they do it over the phone or video conference or something?

I didn't figure. It was mostly sarcasm.

Milton is a proven professional hitter who is off to a slow start...Enough said.

He's proven that he has a career .824 OPS.

Seriously, I was blasted in the offseason when I had some questions about how good he'd be even when he was on the field. I thought he'd be good, but I don't understand why people were penciling him in to be some awesome offensive threat. I was expecting a high .800's OPS, but it wouldn't surprise me to get like 100 games of an .830 OPS or something trashy like that. YeAh his career .824 is partially because of bad parks, but he also got helped ENORMOUSLY by Arlington last year.

So for all the people saying "he's getting his walks, he'll rake eventually..... walks were never the question. He has a career .370 OBP and still only an .824 OPS. He doesn't always hit guys.

I was right there on board with you. Bradley's offense has often looked quite good for a center fielder, but he's not playing center field. He's a corner outfielder that posts an OPS a couple dozen points better than Matt Murton's 2006. And he's not on the field much to boot. If it wasn't for this stupid crap about needing a more left handed lineup, we could have just used DeRo in right full time. And we still would've added another lefty in Fontenot.

Not to mention that Bradley isn't even good as a lefty. He has a .798 OPS as a lefty and .887 as a righty. Hendry basically added another one of the guys he thought were the problem in the playoffs last year.

He was at .940 OPS vs. righties last year, so I think he can be good as a lefty. There was always significant question in my mind how close Milton was going to come to reproducing last year's output. Let's face it, if Milty doesn't have his bombastic 2008, he doesn't even make it on Hendry's radar.

If we're going to get closer to the 2006 Bradley than the 2008 Bradley, we're going to be tearing our hair out over this thing all year long. And if DeRosa starts producing in Cleveland, and Bradley doesn't in Chicago.........that'll just intensify the unrest.

He was .940 vs righties last year because he was good against everybody. He's not going to OPS .999 here.

I thought the Milton Bradley deal sucked at the time and I think it sucks now.

However in order to truly be a Cubs free agent acquisition he has to go on a tear against some crap pitching. When do the Cubs play the Nationals?

So now the news in the Chicago papers is that Bradley isn't close to returning and might have to go on the DL this weekend. Since he played on Wednesday, he would have to sit until May 7th until he is eligable to return. I say just do it and good riddance. Give him more than enough time to get healthy and hope he can play a couple of weeks before his next injury. Remember when the original estimate was 3-5 days?

Good riddance? There's no reason why fans should be excited about losing Bradley for the next 13 days.

I watched all but five games last season, love my DVR. The playoffs went poof.

I could care less how many games Bradley plays this season, as long as he's there for the end. He doesn't need to carry this team, and I think he complements the lineup very well.

Except for the fact that Hendry has tried to acquire him in the past.

I hate to admit it -- since I don't want to be over-presumptuous about making the playoffs, especially as we sit in 4th place -- but I agree.

Bradley: Media trying to make him 'snap'

CHICAGO -- After playing one game at far less than full speed, Chicago Cubs outfielder Milton Bradley said Thursday he's not close to returning from a lingering groin injury.

"I want to say I am, but I'm not," Bradley told Cubs.com.

Bradley has not spoken to the media in at least a week. He spoke to Cubs.com because it is affiliated with the Cubs organization, the Web site said.

Speaking of the fourth estate, the at-times-volatile Bradley accused Chicago's media of trying to make him "snap," a remark that comes on the heels of his ejection for arguing a called third strike during his April 16 pinch-hitting appearance, and the subsequent two-game suspension for making contact with umpire Larry Vanover.

"I'm just not into negativity," he said. "I can see already I'm going to be that guy that since nothing else is going on in here, 'We're going to harp on Bradley all year and see if we can get him to snap.' I'm not going to go for it. You can't get a good story if I don't talk to [the media]. You'll make something up, like you always do."

"If I talk to you, you're going to make something up, and if I don't talk to you, you're going to make something up. So just go ahead and make something up and leave me out of it."

He sure sounds paranoid there. But I think his general point is true, and avoiding most media sources when possibl certainly wouldn't be a bad move on his part (and might even save us from a few lame stories over the course of the season).
