Did anyone hear Grant Paulson on Minors & Majors this AM on MLB radio? I just caught the end and he was effusively praising Baez, going on about his incredible year and went on to say Cubs fans should be giddy about the system. I was curious if anyone heard the first part about Baez to see what I missed.

Jason Parks was his usual self in the Monday morning ten pack. He's such a gigantic tool.

the lindor section was so painfully forced that i could only read every like 5th word

...I have Blackburn pretty closely rated but am worried about whatever injury he dealt with midseason.

I know I feel a lot better about Blackburn now than I did before his final two playoff starts. The guy who over his last ten starts of the season had a 1.9 WHIP, with 27BB/18K/31 IP, coming off an arm injury, he wasn't in my top 20.

The guy with 17K/1 BB/11 innings, or whatever exactly those numbers were, in his two playoff starts, he is in top 20.

is parks the only one who still feels this way about edwards?

Jason Parks ‏@ProfessorParks 8h

Neither. Back-end starter or 7th/8th reliever. RT @furso27: @ProfessorParks CJ Edwards: future top of rotation starter or closer?

Pretty much. Badler likes him more than Johnson.

in his podcast he called Jonathan Gray and Eddie Butler future relievers; there's seemingly like 4 pitching prospects he sees as actual future starters

Three of them are Francisco Lindor.

@johnmanuelba: Talking to FSL folks, sounds like playoff showdown of CJ Edwards vs. Aaron Sanchez may have been pitching matchup of year, both sat 93-96

@johnmanuelba: That game was 9/4, part of Edwards' tour-de-force in FSL playoffs: 10 shutout IP, 11 SO, 1 H. doesn't qualify for loaded FSL top 20 list

CJ going to start at Daytona next year? Any chance he starts in Tenn? Apologies if this has already been discussed.

It got brought up in one of the playoff threads briefly. He had so little time in Daytona that it wouldn't be a shock to see him return, but he was also dominant there and isn't exactly young for the level too. His placement may end up being a good barometer for how much the front office likes him. They've already talked him up as the must-have from the Garza deal, putting him in Tennessee would definitely be backing up their words.

I think CJ is no doubt our top pitching prospect but nice to see him get some love outside of meatball fans like me. Sure would be nice to see him emerge as an elite level pitching prospect next year. He has the talent for it.

kyle is still in parks' head

The top tier; fearless; peerless; Buxton playing the temptress; star among stars; prospect czar; prospect parts; I see you Baez; next in the queue; unglued; exclusive athleticism infused; overly aggressive in your pursuits; overly aggressive fandom retorts.

To say the least.

Random thought: who starts next year at 3B in Iowa?

Vitters.

Yeah, Vitters will be moved this offseason.

it's an interesting logjam, for sure. You've got to keep Bryant at 3B for as long as possible, and he'll be at AA before long, so Villanueva will have to move up. Baez will before long too, but he has to stay at short stop. I imagine Olt starts the year at 3B in AAA, and gets called up to the majors when baez and villanueva are ready for AAA.

BA's minor league all-star team: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2013-minor-league-all-star-team/

DH Javier Baez • Cubs

Double-A Tennessee (Southern)

Baez slammed 20 homers in 54 Double-A games to catch and tie George Springer for second place in the minors with 37 bombs. Baez stands all by himself, however, with minor league-leading totals for extra-base hits (75) and RBIs (111). The 20-year-old stepped up his game with runners on base this season, hitting .325/.384/.654 with 19 homers in 231 at-bats at Tennessee and high Class A Daytona. While Baez possesses the raw tools to play a big league shortstop, he needs to clean up his fundamentals and improve his efficiency after committing 44 errors in 123 games, a performance good for a .932 fielding average.

SP C.J. Edwards • Cubs

High Class A Daytona (Florida State)

A 48th-round pick by the Rangers out of high school in Prosperity, S.C., two years ago, Edwards is the scouting and player development success story in the minors. He quickly refined his mechanics and added velocity during his 2012 debut before utterly dominating low Class A competition for the first half of 2013. Edwards didn’t allow a home run in 18 starts for Hickory prior to his July 22 trade to the Cubs as part of the bounty for Matt Garza. He breezed through another six starts afterward, finishing with a minor league-best 12 strikeouts per nine innings and ranking fourth in the ERA race at 1.86. He then added 10 shutout, one-hit innings as Daytona won the Florida State League championship.

Second team: SP Kyle Hendricks
