Do we seriously NOT have a better backup catcher than Koyie?

Hill is just fine as a backup catcher. He's had 3 hits(including a huge HR) and 2 walks this week, not sure what more you want.

As for the system, there are quite a few backup catcher types coming through the system, just none quite ready. Steve Clevenger and Welington Castillo are the closest at AA.

Well we did have Blanco. He would cost more though.

But in general I think Hill is fine as a backup, especially at his cost.

I'm pretty sure Blanco signed for the league minimum.

That said, I don't really miss him. And I don't care all that much about our backup C. They all suck. Just be glad we're one of the few teams with a good #1.

In all honest Hill has been alot better at the plate then I expected him to be. Try to keep in mind though back up catchers usually suck offensivly and thats why there back up catchers. If Hill can hit 220, with a little HR pop here and there and play good defense. I'll be happy with him as the back up.

Hammerin' Hank is 3 for 9 with 2HR's so far for that juggernaut otherwise known as the Padres

Will Geo be back today then?

I don't mind Koyie as a backup, but it has sucked not having Soto's bat in the lineup.

Lou said he would probably be available, but would ultimately hold him out until game two on Wednesday.

Koyie is up to an .917 OPS after today's game.

Geovany Pipp anyone???

But in all seriousness, Koyie is one of those guys that when he stands in the box he looks like he should be a better hitter than he really is. He passes the eye test. I'm liking him just fine so far though.

Mark Johnson is at AAA and he has ML experience. . . . . and he gave my son a ball 2 or 3 years ago, so that makes him incredibly awesome in my book.

Isn't your son old enough to step in yet? What's the holdup?

I wanted Blanco back, but Hill will do. He caught someone stealing last week on a tough pitch in the dirt. On the other hand, I don't know if he or Gregg called that curve to walk Milwaukee's 5th outfielder. That was inexcusable. But he's doing just fine so far.
