Gus is erupting. I love it.

I will never understand the internet phenomenon of a guy who yells really loud calling basketball games.

that's cause you're an old white man

Bill Simmons is older and whiter and he started this whole thing.

As an aside, it was a year or two ago that I first learned Gus was black. I'd heard his voice calling Knicks games in the background.

i was stunned too, but i think it's because i don't think of gus as a black guy's name

When I first started reading Simmons rave about the guy, I was picturing Ernie Johnson.

There's the first buzzer beater of the tournament. Too bad Utah State was down by 4 instead of 3.

4-0 in this first set of games today but I have Temple over ASU in this next set.

Big East representin

They should dominate the first round. They have less than half their teams in the tournament, but the conference was still strong because the teams they do have in are all really good. 5 of the 6 Big East teams are a 3 seed or better. They better win their first round games. They also should have the best tournament record when all is said and done. They have the fewest percentage of teams in the tournament of the four best conferences and have the best seeds. That's why total tournament record is such a flawed stat because it automatically says that it is better to have 3 great teams than 6 good teams.

The key for the Big East in this tournament will be in the next 2 rounds. By the seeds, they are supposed to have 5 Sweet 16 teams and 3 Elite 8 teams. If they only get 3-4 in the Sweet 16 and 1-2 in the Elite 8 and no national champion it will be a disappointing tourney for them even if they do have the best overall record. If they can get 4-5 Sweet 16 teams, 2 final 4 teams, and a national championship, it will be a really good year for them.

This is why I don't get all the over the top Big East love. It's a huge conference. You are going to have more good teams when you do that. They do have some very good teams and are the best conference, but it's never talked about in perspective. And the abundance of crappy-mediocre teams are ignored.

If Pitt loses my bracket is screwed but I hope it happens.

me too, though you could argue my bracket is already screwed.

I imagine a 16 winning would be devastating to everyone's bracket.

That's true. I'd rather see a 16 seed win than win almost any bracket (unless it's one where you make loads of money). Of course the year the 16 win will be the year Iowa is the one seed (like that'll ever happen)
