He is very, very screwed. There's not getting out of this now when the minimum is 3 1/2 years. He's pretty much guilty per se because there isn't really any question of fact here seeing as how he was obviously in possession of a firearm in light of the fact that, ya know, he shot himself.

He REALLY should have taken the plea when he could....he should go back to the DA on his knees now.

Athletes have got to be some of the dumbest people in the world. They really need to have a checklist.

1. If I am drinking I will hire a limo service. I have the money and the risks of driving greatly outweigh the benefits.

2. I will not carry a gun. If I feel the need to be protected I will have a member of my entourage carry a gun or hire a security guard.

3. I will not make it rain, and then attempt to take the money back.

4. I will not carry obscene amounts of cash that lead to becoming a target of attack.

5. I will not try to rape my concierge, or put myself in questionable positions with women I don't trust.

6. I won't start illegal dog fighting operations in my backyard.

7. I won't hold my own stash if I like to enjoy illegal drugs.

Seriously, is it that hard to take some precautions? I can't see how athletes who have the money to protect themselves from things like DUI, rape or sexual assault charges, and gun violations fail to do so on such a regular basis.

Watching the TO show, I see he really has a nice setup. His bodyguard is his best friend, and he hangs out with 2 chicks all the time. That's a good way NOT to get in trouble. Become good friends with a woman. They don't c'block they just make sure he doesn't do anything stupid.

Eli Manning has agreed to a new six-year, $97 million contract extension with the New York Giants that will make him the highest paid player in the NFL with an average salary of roughly $15.3 million.

$35 million of it is guaranteed.

My first reaction: :-))

My second reaction when I think about how Cutler will use this in his negotiations when that time comes:

If he had a good 2009, they have to resign him next offseason. They can't wait until the next year. With 2 more years of contract left that will be there last leverage against him.

I've always been in the believe that TO is good person outside of the locker room.

Apparantly Jason Whitlock wrote another article saying Jeff George should get an NFL job.

I love Jason Whitlock, he's essentially a professional troll, but he's a smart guy that writes just enough "you know what, he's right" stuff to stay relevant.

He's like that guy from cbcsports.com, but Whitlock trolls both races effectively, while the CBS guy just trolls white people.

I don't know when I'll start again. But I will be the next black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. And I will be in the Hall of Fame.

I agree. If they bring in Vick I think Brohm is the one to go. Really haven't heard anything positive about his play.

San Francisco 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree is prepared to sit out this season and re-enter the NFL draft in 2010, David Wells, Crabtree's cousin and adviser, said Thursday.

Yeah sure. Nice bluff. And if does go through with it, I hope the NFL owners collude against his entitled ass and don't draft him at all next year.

It worked so well for Mike Williams (although his sit-out year was due mostly to a poor decision to enter the draft when ineligible)...

Wasn't it you that was in love with Crabtree, or am I thinking of someone else?

I was big on Crabtree for the Raiders.

EDIT: I would have been fine with Maclin as well, but Crabtree was my top choice.

DEFINITELY not me. I can't stand him and I'm glad Ole Miss stifled him down in his final college game.

I wasn't big on anyone in this draft. I was a massive Patrick Willis homer several years ago and I'm happy to say that my man-crush continues because he's still such a badass.

For someone who thought the media circus around Brett Favre caused the Packers to play poorly last year, I'm not sure why you'd want Vick.

Has a top pick ever re entered the draft? And how did it work out? It's always something that seems like an obvious bluff to me. Hard to believe any GM would do much more than laugh at the notion.
