Adam Dunn at $10 million a year is a better value than Manny for $25 million a year. Manny is not a 1.232 OPS hitter. I don't know why anyone isn't picking up on the obvious. What Manny did with the Dodgers is essentially like what Randy Winn did with the Giants. Yes, of course, Manny is better than Randy Winn. We all know that. The point is neither of them is what they showcased after the trade. Randy Winn was not a 1.071 OPS player and Manny is not a 1.232 OPS player.

And the way people are ignoring Manny's age seems downright disingenuous to me. Manny was one of the greatest hitters of the past 20 years. Okay. So was Frank Thomas. Somebody give Frank Thomas $20 million.

I like the ability of older guys to keep their bats in good shape if they're DHing. Manny's career OPS+ is 155. Jim Thome's is 148. Guys like Jim Thome and Frank Thomas get to DH.

Sorry. A younger Manny is worth $25 million. If we could use Doc Brown's flying DeLorean to kidnap the Manny Ramirez of 2003 and sign him for $25 million, fantastic idea, I say fire up the damn flux capacitor. But falling into the trap of thinking age has no effective on a rotund position player? Eh... my bottom line point is not that Manny is washed up, he isn't, my bottom line point is you have to temper your enthusiasm and not pretend you're getting Manny 2003.

If I'm the dodgers I give Manny the finger and sign Adam Dunn.

Manny >>>>>>>>>>> Dunn, and I like Dunn

yeah, you can definitely go get dunn instead of manny if you want, but signing a lesser player is hardly giving manny the finger.

It's giving him the finger in that without them plying for his services his market almost vanishes.

And I realize that Manny is a better hitter than Dunn, I just don't think it is as big a difference as people seem to think.

I love how Sabean gives out huge, ridiculous, contracts to mediocre and crappy players all the time when they have no chance of competing....but as soon as he has the oppourtunity to completely change the division and arguably make his team the favorite, he's suddenly stingy and talking about how a deal has to "make sense". We can give 176 million to Rowand and Zito though. That "makes sense."

Zito and Rowland are probably the reason why he can't go after others.

This is a great time to be searching for free agents. There are some very good players out there that can be signed short term. Overspending and back loading have put Hendry in a bad spot too. He had to clear contracts to sign Bradley.Fukodome is getting around 12 mil to platoon and Adam Dunn and Bobby Abreau may sign one year deals for less than that!

Howry(2.75), Affeldt(3), Winn(8.25), Roberts(6.5), Lowry(4.5), Renteria(7) are also combining for about $32 mil. That Roberts contract was really bad and that could be the difference in them getting Manny or not, Winn would have been tradeable last offseason or even during the year last year but when Dunn, Abreu, Garrett Anderson, and Griffey to a lesser extent can all be signed for less he is virtually unmovable. They will regret that Renteria Contract in years 2 and 3 when he is making 9 and 10+ mil. Lowry wasn't a terrible signing, it bought out his arby years and at the time he looked like a solid 2/3, but injuries have got to him but the contract looks bad now, especially when you consider he might not even be in the rotation this year with the rotation looking like Lincecum, Johnson, Cain, Zito, Sanchez.

I'm wondering if any team that signs Manny at this point is going to be screwed. He's surely going to perceive his remaining so long on FA market as a sign of disrespect which is going to feed all his BS.

Who cares if he's grouchy. Even at his worst he still put up terrific numbers.

If he'd sign with the Cubs for 2/30 plus incentives he can do what he wants. Show up 5 minutes before the game. Be carried to his outfield position on a throne carried by now out of work former teammates. Punch Jim Hendry in the balls nightly. Whatever.

Of course, I'd sign Satan if it would get us a World Series win...

We tried that last year. He had a decent run, but Mr. Edmonds couldn't do enough for us in the postseason.

You shut your mouth when talking about Jimmy.

Manny should just pull a Dawson and sign a blank contract with us. We could then throw him in LF, put Soriano back at 2b, and just deal with the atrocious defense. Someone call Manny's agent and tell him what to do.

You ask me 'bout this thing we share...and he tenderly replies....It's guy love...between two guys.

You're the only man who's ever been inside me!

Woah, woah. I just took out his appendix..

There's no need to clarifyyyyyyy

Give me a 1 year 25 million dollar contract and I'll retire at the age of 25 and live happily ever after. Some of these guys are freaking ridiculous.

It's probably been said before, but maybe it wasn't about the money. It was probably about the years.

I understand, but with 25 mil, I could live the rest of my life handsomely, who cares how many years. Oh well, rich people live in their own little world.

If you were as good at your job as Manny is, and your job had the same economic structure as baseball, you wouldn't settle for that when you think you're worth more.

I can't imagine he'll get better than that.

Yeah, that deal is pretty sweet for him. If he doesn't take it I don't know that he'll be signed by opening day. Unless he's willing to take less money per year for more years somewhere else.

According to Tony Jackson of the Los Angeles Daily News, the Dodgers and Manny Ramirez have agreed to terms.
