the amount of love/support/whatever that rich hill gets on here is truly amazing. the guy couldn't throw strikes all year, couldn't throw strikes in winter ball, and as a result he rightly so gets shipped out of town. then he claims that an injury was why he couldn't throw strikes last year (of course with no explanation for his continued lack of control in winter ball). then he gets to o's camp and STILL CAN'T THROW STRIKES. yet people are still sticking up for him like he's the greatest cub ever. i don't get it.

Probably because what you're ranting about isn't happening.

There's an obvious difference between pointing out that the guy did have sustained success and wasn't a total failure his entire time as a Cub, as some seem to want to show, and declaring that he's "the greatest Cub ever."

I really need to avoid every thread about Rich Hill.

right, no one here is going out of their way to defend a guy who had success as a cub for a very, very brief period and then completely tanked. come on.

i know, i know... the rich hill "hate" is truly amazing too. spare me that weak counter.

omg, do you have a learning disability? no one is saying the cubs shouldn't have traded hill or that hill is currently awesome at pitching.

In the above quoted post. The implication of "sticking up for him" is supposed to mean...what?

Nobody is going out of their way to defend him when they simply point out what he was able to do before he flopped.

are you kidding? a season and a half is incredibly brief in baseball, homey.

Actually, it's not. Guys are able to sustain inflated careers and contracts on far less.

this is stupid. baseball is a sport of longevity. if a guy says that he played pro ball for a year and a half, you would say that he was a pro baseball player for a very brief period? would you not? same thing.

and what's the point of pointing out what he was able to do before he became a guy who couldn't throw strikes? when someone says "god rich hill really sucks now" is it really necessary to have the same people over and over come and say "yeah well look what he did in 2007!!!" who cares what he did then? he's beyond pathetic now. cut the cord.

It's not the same thing, because we don't know yet if his career is done. And you're right about it being asport of longevity...hence why having sustained and noticeable success for a full season and the second half of the season before that IS impressive. That's not a brief period of time.

Because it's gone beyond that to "he was never good," which simply isn't the case. That's what's being argued against. Nobody is propping up Hill now as some sure thing or trying to defend his performances over the last year. The issue is taken with the ridiculous argument along the lines that he was "never good" If this discussion frustrates you so much, it should be reasonably easy for you to avoid a thread clearly labelled to be about Hill.

You guys are nuts. Why dont I like him? I dont think he has proven much of anything.

over the course of 06-07 he was the best pitcher

Ted Lilly was/ is much better.

Do you need me to tell you why this is a stupid response, or can you work it out on your own?

god what an unnecessary and [expletive] response. posts like this make this place borderline miserable.

to address the post..........

i don't know how relevant 2006 is since lilly wasn't even on the cubs, but lilly was absolutely better than hill was in 2007. and considering that ted still knows how to throw strikes, he's unarguably better right now.

So why continue to subject yourself to "this place?" Pretty much all you've done since joining is pick fights, insult other posters and complan about how stupid everyone is and how awful this board is. Do yourself a favor.

actually i haven't done any of that. at all. that's pretty offensive for you to say when it's completely untrue.

i like this board. it's educational and a good place to talk baseball. but posts like the one i replied to bring it down so much, and unfortunately posts like that aren't exactly uncommon here.

Just keep the blinders on as you barrel on through another rant in yet another thread.

Sounds like pretty much everyone on every message board on the Internet.

Nobody's arguing about right now.

It's bringing up idiocy (Lilly best pitcher on the cubs for a 2-year period he was only present for 50% of) and arguing points that NOBODY IS ARGUING (that Hill is worthless to the Cubs now) that brings down the board.

who's doing that? It seems most were crying about the fact the cubs were not getting fair value for Hill. Despite the fact, hill at the moment he was traded had zero value.
