-let kerry wood walk, check.

-trade derosa for three crappy prospects, check.

-sign a guy who has stayed healthy for 75% of the games once in his 8 year career, check.

-somehow get value for pie, then trade that value for a terrible swingman when you already have a great one (marshall), check.

-sign aaron miles to a two year deal, check.

-sign paul bako, presumably just b/c he's a lefty rather than hank white, check.

-what a terrible, terrible offseason.

Levine mentioned that 3 teams where talking to the Cubs about Rich Hill, I am curious to see what kind of vaule he will for him.

Is the team low on batting practice balls and jock straps?

It's funny how over the past couple season Hendry was actually making a lot of good moves and people that doubted him (me) were starting to think "maybe he's not really that bad".

It seems like this offseason he's trying as hard as he can to erase everything good he's done over the past couple years... like he's on a mission to prove once and for all that he really is bad. Well played Jim.

Yet if we still trade for Jake Peavy this offseason would be great. Stop overreacting and relax people lets see what the roster looks like in April. Hendry has a plan, and right now the roster looks like a mess, but he's not done yet. Just because reports in the media say we need Olson to get Peavy, doesn't mean we do. Hendry isn't done yet.

Not being done yet is not an excuse for wasting valuable commodities in the meantime. The roster is never finished, people will excuse the april roster by saying he left room to make moves during the season. This is just, inefficient.

Loss: Wood, DeRosa, Edmonds, Cedeno, Pie, Marquis, Blanco, Ceda, Ward, Olson, Howry,

Gain: Gregg, Miles, Bradley(for what, 80 games?), Heilman, Vizcaino, Stevens, Gaub, Archer

What a remarkably inefficient use of resources.

Cedeno for Heilman would have been an okay trade.

Olson for Heilman would have been a bleh trade, but it wouldn't have been terrible.

Cedeno and Olson for Heilman, on the other hand...not so good. I'm at least hoping the Mariners kicked a B-level prospect back our way.

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry, who was returning from a trip to Italy on Wednesday, couldn't be reached for comment. But one baseball person said Hendry has been an admirer of Heilman's "since he pitched at Notre Dame.''

He must really have a fetish for the guy if he goes out of the way on his vacation to Italy to aquire him and give up what he did.

That's a hell of a lot of running in place.

Add to the fact that we are looking at adding Juan Freakin Uribe as our backup SS/3B/2B this offseason couldn't get any worse. Uribe sucks he has a .299 career OBP

him getting anything for rich hill will be remarkable.

Im not surprised that some teams are interestd in Hill. If they could get similar production as he gave in 2007 for a low risk, it would be more than worth it. I doubt wed get much of anything in return though.

Hendry is awful. He's always been one of the worst GMs around, but now he's aiming to be one of the worst in baseball history.

It pisses me off and you just keep wondering why..Why does Hendry "covet" mediocre pitchers and infielders? How in the hell are you going to win a championship doing that?

I hope Hendry still lands Peavy, and this offseason can still be viewed as possibly a good one (time will tell). My fear is that the remanining moves end up being something like: sign Paul Bako, trade Rich Hill for a bag of baseballs and a half eaten mcrib, sign Juan Uribe to back up SS-3B, call it good.

What valuable commodities? Just because some Cubs fans think these guys have value doesn't mean they do. I know that Heilman actually has pretty good value around the league as well. Teams have been trying to trade for him for years from the Mets. This Peavy deal can still get done without Olson, but we would probably need to trade Marshall or get a third team in involved. All I'm saying is lets see what happens. People can say they dislike this trade, thats fine. But ranting about this is an awful offseason, and Hendry is nuts, is just stupid. The offseason isn't done yet, and lets see what the finsh product is. If at the end of spring training we start the season with this current roster, then I'll be right with you guys. But I don't think were close to done yet.

One of the worst things about being a scout and not a stathead is that you can't tell the difference between mediocre and good.
