until i just checked his BR page, i've long been under the assumption that heilman was a starter. has there been talk of him going back to the rotation or was i just completely off?

I thought he was too. Interesting. Seems steep for a reliever. Contract, I mean, not giving up worthless Cedeno.

Heilman has made it clear he wants to be a starter. It would be interesting. Send them Cedeno, and something like Wuertz or Vozcaino.

That then rases the question, due they still persue Peavy? wed have Z, Harden, Dempster, and Lilly as a more than solid 1-4, and then Marshall, Oson, and Heilman, and even Samardzia as candidates for the 5 spot.

What did Seattle give up to get Heilman?

Putz

I'd gladly take Heilman, and if he fails as a starter, he'd be an excellent long man or even late inning guy.

New York dealt seven players — six to the Mariners and one to Cleveland — to get three back in a huge swap at baseball's winter meetings.

The Mets shipped reliever Aaron Heilman, outfielder Endy Chavez, lefty Jason Vargas and three minor leaguers to the Mariners for Putz, center fielder Jeremy Reed and reliever Sean Green in the first trade by new Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik.

Promising outfielder Franklin Gutierrez was sent from the Indians to Seattle. Cleveland gets reliever Joe Smith from the Mets and 23-year-old second baseman Luis Valbuena from Seattle.

This is a no brainer, IMO. I wonder what kind of pitching will need to be included?

Rich Hill?

Vizcaino?

How much is Heilman due to make this year?

I wonder if this means Marshall is likely to go in a potential Peavy trade and Hendry sees Heilman filling in for Marshall as the swingman and guy to back up Harden

1.625 according to the link in the first post.

I can't see it being Hill from the way that link read (with the Hill tidbit right after). Probably a guy like Ascanio if they want major league ready or a lower minors guy or two. I don't see the Mariners wanting to take Vizcaino's salary on.

i wish i knew how much money he made last year and what his stats were last year.

1.2m salary last year and lousy stats. 1.5ish WHIP and an ERA over 5.00

what hand does he throw with?

how old is he?

c'mon people hurry it up i don't have all day

your guess is as good as mine. i wish there were somewhere online that contained all this information. maybe theREALtraderumor can add this info to his stats collection.

I like it. If nothing else it gives the Cubs more options, which is never a bad thing.

Certain

Zambrano

Dempster

Lilly

Harden

Other

Marshall - L

Cotts - L

Olson - L

Samardz - R

Wuertz - R

Vizcaino - R

Gaudin - R

Heilman - R

Guzman - R

Hart - R

Gregg - R

Marmol - R

That's a solid amount of depth. Maybe Guz or Hart goes in return off the possible MLB guys?

I still think Chad Gaudin is going to be a big part of this staff and is overlooked.

Hmmm..has the potential to be that guy in the bullpen who makes me use obscenities and utter the names of religious figures in a blasphemous way a lot.

True. But, his previous year stats ('05-'07) make him look pretty good. His walk rate doubled last year, which is pretty scary.

Strikes out a little under 8 per 9, walks a little under 4 per 9, gives up a little over 8 hits per 9, 2.1 K/BB, 1.33 WHIP

He threw 180 innings (mostly in the minors) in 2004 but has typically been much less than that relieving in the majors. He often throws more than an inning per outing, making him the go to guy in extra inning affairs. Aside from typically being available whenever the manager wants him, he's really done nothing all that well in his career. He did cut back on the walks for a couple years as a reliever. I believe he's somewhat of a fly ball pitcher; he hasn't been killed by the longball, but he may have been helped in that regard playing in Shea most of his career, which has a reputation, at least, for being a tough park to hit it out of. Hendry probably views him as a poor man's Ryan Dempster, although I think he'd probably be more like a Jason Marquis if he transitions to a starting role. He's definitely got swing man written all over him for this team, similar to Gaudin.
