Maybe we should stop drafting guys on whom there is consensus?

We did: And his name is Tyler Colvin.

I get it. In the draft, players who have no consensus have a name. HIS name is Tyler Colvin.

In retrospect, choosing Vitters was probably the right move now. We already got Geo, so no dire need for Weiters. And now Vitters might help us net Jake Peavy. If he doesn't he'll be in our system until he's ready for MLB play until, theoretically, Aramis' contract is up and by that time Geo will (knock on wood) be an established top tier catcher with still a few good years left in him

If we had Weiters we probably would only have to add like Cedeno and Hart or Atkins and we could get Peavy. I wanted either Vitters or Weiters and I am happy we took vitters, but Weiters trade value is much higher than Vitters right now he is a lot closer to being major league ready (he will be up by May this year Vitters will be in AA at best) and he is a top 3 prospect in all of baseball. I was slightly leaning towards wanting Weiters just for the fact he could move to 1B when Lee left and we had a unsettled catching position at the time if he stayed at cathcer, but I am completely fine with Vitters.

Weiters and LaPorta (who could have been used to make Lee more expandable) had Boras as agents. Teams are weary picking his guys in fear of them not signing. Weiters ended up getting a higher signing bonus than Price.

Doesn't Boras represent like 7 of the top 10 guys for this years draft? The Cubs might be lucky to have one of those guys fall to them if other teams are scared of the price tag. I remember the Weiters thing scaring teams and all, but he was going to get paid regardless he was the best college hitter in the draft and plays a premium position for offense. I do think Laporta signed a reasonable contract with the Brewers though.

IIRC, the Cubs do have a good working relationship with Boras, correct?

Just looking over the contracts a Cot's the Cubs don't have any current players, at least listed, that are represented by Boras. IDK who was the last Cubs was who was represented by Boras, but I never remember hearing anything about Boras/Cubs having any sort of issues.

Remember that time when we drafted Ryan Harvey one spot ahead of Markakis because Jim Hendry is in love with no-strike-zone-discipline assclowns from Florida? THANKS DUNEDIN HIGH SCHOOL

I worked at the Winn-Dixie on Drew between Clearwater and Dunedin several years ago. Cubs scouts never noticed me.

There really are Winn-Dixies? I assumed they were fictional.

Winn-Dixie is more real than North Dakota. Fact.

True. North Dakota is only real to the pure of heart and strong of mind (who also happen to own thermal undergarments).

Yes, it's been said that Hendry and Boras have a good relationship. However, it should be noted that the only Cub that is currently rep'd by Boras is Mark Pawelek (a 20th overall pick). The strong relationship is likely due to the fact that they haven't had to deal with him when it comes with big contracts. That might be more than just coincidence.

I would assume that unless the player is an absolute can't miss stud, if all things were equal, one would be better off picking the guy who is not a Boras client.

Patterson is a Boras guy. So was Brownlie, and he was thought to be a tough sign when he was drafted.

He was a tough sign, wasn't he?

Yeah, if memory serves. What I was trying to say is that we got him signed when there was reasonable doubt that he wouldn't.
