what a stupid thing to say.

umm no. i think we all understand who is saying the stupid things in this thread.

i see. this must be the "group think" that i've been told by others is northsidebaseball's biggest downfall.

There's no "groupthink" in this thread. It's common sense. The guy had misdiagnosed arm problems. He could have worked 24/7/365, and his arm still wouldn't have been healthy.

tougher, sure. absolutely. but we're not talking about a two month period. or even a one year period. it's been years now. let me ask you this... at what point do you question his committment to getting healthy? five years of being hurt? ten? ever?

In the case of pitching-related arm problems, never. You question his physical ability to get healthy, but there's no reason to question the commitment.

really? no reason? why's that?

do you think he's unaware of what's at stake?

this is not his hobby. he's not just a fan. this is this guy's career. millions and million of dollars, not to mention fame and much more, are at stake right now. you really think he's not commited to that? give me a break.

no, i don't. i think if he were actually committed he wouldn't have been hurt for the last FIVE YEARS.

are you actually believing what you're saying?

so any time a player is injured for 5 years, it's lack of commitment? it has nothing to do with the injuries? please make it stop

at what point do you question a cancer patient's commitment to getting healthy? 5 years of being sick? 10? death?

actually, it's been frequently suggested that determination and will to live (or whatever you want to refer to it as) are significant factors in fighting cancer. i'm not too fond of your comparison.

i'm not saying it has nothing to do with injuries. suggesting so in and of itself is fundamentally ridiculous. of course the injuries are a factor. a two year old would know that. AT THE SAME TIME... i'm saying that his effort is a factor as well. that's all. make sense?

They are significant factors in delaying death. They don't make the cancer disappear.

no, i completely understood what you said.

i think if he were actually committed he wouldn't have been hurt for the last FIVE YEARS

right there, you obviously imply that the injuries wouldn't have been a factor if had commitment to getting better. don't even try to spin that. the quote is right there

hahaha, no it's not. you're essentially saying that effort in recovering from an injury means nothing. THAT's the stupid thing to say. you don't really believe that, now do you?

Your exact words were:

i think if he were actually committed he wouldn't have been hurt for the last FIVE YEARS.

His level of dedication to his rehab is pointless considering that his shoulder problems were misdiagnosed. How do you rehab an injury when no one can tell you what the injury is?

What you seem to be ignoring is that Mark Prior didn't have a single injury that has persisted for five years.

determination can delay it/help fight it. it doesn't cure it.

take a step back. i'm not trying to spin anything. just having a conversation. maybe you're trying to win an argument. if so, okay. kinda strange, but okay. i'm just discussing baseball, the game i love.

umm. he's not the one that said it had nothing to do with it. YOU are the one that implied it was the ONLY thing that mattered, which is just dumb. we all understood what you meant and now you're trying to spin your way out of it because of how ridiculous it was.

not ignoring that at all. so why, then, does he have so many injuries? just because? or is there perhaps a more logical reason? what are your thoughts, i'm curious.

no one's saying that. everyone is saying there's no reason to believe that mark prior isn't giving any effort.

I have a legitimate question regarding baseball injuries. Who pays for the surgeries and rehab? Does that come from the team or the individual players? Moreover, do injured players have higher insurance premiums as a result? Or do they just pay out of pocket?

Because he made to throw a baseball more often than anyone should at 21 years old when his muscle structure was still forming, and possibly because some people's muscle structures are simply not built to consistently throw baseballs at all.

It's hard to maintain a conversation when you just keep repeating ignorant statements.

if you want to have an adult conversation, let me know. otherwise, go grab lunch or something.

I would wager anything to assume that the medical staffs never fully surgically repaired Prior's shoulder to where he could get healthy compared to the surgeries being successful and Prior's lack of a work ethic prohibiting him from coming back. To me, regardless of his conditioning program; his should will likely never be healthy enough again for him be close to where he was. I hope they correct everything and he's pitching again though.
