Considering that Boldin is still in AZ, I wonder how accurate those reports of AZ only wanting a 2nd rd pick and another player were? I can't believe they didn't find a match with those demands.

They weren't accurate at all. He wasn't going anywhere unless a team offered a bunch to Arizona.

Again, the Cardinals had/have all of the leverage in this situation.

I would like to see 1 of 2 things happen for the Bears on the WR front:

1. Draft Ingram with a 3rd round pick and convert him to a big receiver. He could also be used in a 4-wide scenario with Olsen, Bennett, and Hester.

2. Look into Jordan Norwood (from Penn State) in the later rounds. He has some pretty good hands.

On a separate note, I think the DE that was taken in the 2nd was Everette Brown - and I don't think he would have been a good fit for the Bears.

Do you really think that Everette Brown would not have been a good fit on the Bears' defense? His strength as a pass rusher and weakness as a run stopper are exactly what a team running a Tampa-2 looks for. Unless Lovie Smith has started to move away from a Tampa-2 Brown would have been a terrific value pick for the Bears in the middle of the second round.

I don't think he is enough of a force. He'll excel in a good system, but I don't think he's the player for the Bears team.

And I say that as a Bears and FSU homer.

The surprise pick of the second round was Ohio University safety Mike Mitchell going to the Raiders with the 47th overall selection, two slots before the Bears were supposed to pick.

Our friend David White from the San Francisco Chronicle, who covers the Raiders, informed us that Mitchell expected to go to the Bears at No.49. The Raiders traded down from No. 40, swapping with the New England Patriots.

``I thought I was going to Chicago because they had told me to stay close to my phone,'' Mitchell told Oakland-area reporters. ``When they did that, I was like, `Ok, I'm going to be a Chicago Bear.' That's what I was thinking.''

well now

The Cowboys have a dozen picks tomorrow including 2 in the top 11 of the third round, and 3 in the 4th round. Normally I'd be thrilled, but I have to work at 9 and then I'm moving after I get off of work :(

Well The seahawks had arguably the best day of any team. To be able to get the best (arguably) player in the draft at 4 and then trade Alphonso Smith for a 2010 first rounder (its the Denver pick, not the Bears so it has mid round possibility after today's picks) is a pretty good haul.

I am mixed on the 3rd & 4th for Unger. Many said that he had late 1st to early 2nd talent cause he is a solid center but can also play guard but It would have been a better idea to send a 3rd & 5th not 3 &4.

But thats just a petty complaint really. If they got a bad player for that deal, then it would be more of an issue but Unger is Solid and Curry is a stud. Curry, Lofa & Leroy Hill is arguably the best 4-3 linebackers in the league. Add that to a revamped D-Line and the Seahawks defense should be much improved. The next pick should be a DB but we shall see what Ruskell picks. He usually finds a gem in the 5th round so i am confident.

If Brown isn't enough of a force to do well in a Tampa-2, then I don't know how he will ever succeed in the NFL; the scheme is tailor made for him. If that's the case then it looks like he is another name that can be added to the list of crappy Florida St. defensive ends.

I am curious now. What has changed your mind about Brown's potential in the NFL? When we last discussed his future you were his strongest defender, and now it seems you are even questioning him now.

So on my way home from the UCD baseball game, I was listening to local sports talk radio and the host had a sound bite from Tom Cable that I'm assuming is from today.

Cable said that he was told by scouts that "(DHB) is a Randy Moss-type".

After laughing/shouting at Cable for a few minutes, the only thing I can think of is that Cable was referring to the type of player Randy Moss was while he was in Oakland.

What a joke of a franchise.

well i'm sure you'll love the Mike Mitchell pick

Absolutely loved it. I didn't hear the whole thing, but I'm pretty sure on SportsCenter that I heard either Kiper or McShay had Mitchell as the 126th or something around there best player in the draft. That's not to say those guys' lists are the end all but still, if a guy is ranked No. 126, chances are you can grab him in the third round with the 71st pick.

The ESPN guys flat-out asked Kiper what the earliest he thought Oakland would've had to worry about anyone else taking Mitchell was, and he said "Fifth round. At least." And Berman said they had no highlights on him. He wasn't in the draft guide, being listed between 40th and 73rd best safety in the draft.

There was other stuff in there I'm sure but by this time my insane laughter was drowning out the rest of it. Oakland's always a good source of draft entertainment.

I see him as a 3-4 OLB, and always have.

Anyone think a guy like Derrick Williams will end up a Bear today?

I hope not. I'm not a big fan of smaller receivers.

I'm curious where the PSU receiving corps end up. Williams, Butler and Norwood are all available, but none are terribly big. Williams and Butler are likely to start out as returners, while Norwood might be a good 3rd and short receiver (he has incredible hands). We'll see

BTW, I need to qualify my earlier comments with my comments here:

I dislike taking smaller receivers with higher picks. I think Williams in the 3rd/4th is more of a reach than a Norwood in the 7th/UFA.

I like the Norwood idea; I don't like the Williams idea.
