About the only positive I can muster out of this from the Vikings perspective is that this deal could hurt them in other spots long-term. As has been discussed the o-line is questionable at least after the next year or so, the WR's are shaky and the defense is no longer great and is aging. The 2 firsts and a 3rd will hurt their ability to add those young pieces in those spots. Plus by 2011 Cutler is likely to have a huge cap number that could restrict them some when combined with the draft picks.

With all that said, last week I felt pretty confident that the Vikings would take the North next year with the Packers being the toughest competition and the Bears third. Now, who knows. Everything changes when you add what looks like a 25 year old franchise QB.

Yahoo kept reporting that the Vikings were in the original 3-way deal that would have sent Cassel to the Broncos, Cutler to the Vikings and draft picks to the Patriots. They reported the deal fell through when multiple members of the Vikigns coaching staff and front office weren't sold on Cutler and had questions about him mentally and how he fits on a team. Ugh

If that's the real reason that trade fell through then everyone on the the vikings staff should be fired for stupidity.

Instead, they decided keep Tavaris Jackson and trade for Sage Rosenfels :) I actually think Sage will be good for them but he's no Cutler.

Yes, because many people consider it demeaning to mentally challenged people. You could call Turner a moron instead.

Oversensitivity ftw!

I was at a bar last night with friends to watch the bball games. I was wearing one of my Bears shirts and to no surprise discussion about Cutler came up. A prevailinig topic was 'he has no weapons'. People discount Hester too much and ignore the TE's but whatever. You know who never has had WR weapons or stud #1 except for 1.5 seasons....Donovan Mcnabb.

I think that the "weapons" will develop with time. I mean Devin Hester for example would have been a much bigger weapon last season if Orton was able to hit him in stride on the deep ball. Olsen should be a bigger weapon. I'm also hopeful Earl Bennett will be able to make his mark. And I expect we are going to add a WR or two via FA and/or draft.

The biggest weapon at Cutler's disposal really will be Matt Forte since he will be able to keep the defense honest. And it should be a two way street as Cutler should be able to keep teams from stacking the box as much.

After careful consideration, and some convincing by Mike Greenberg on Mike and Mike, I will have reversal of thinking on Plaxico Burress. I do not want the SOB near the Bears. I hope he's not a consideration by the Bears front office. I rahter trying to win with Hester and Bennett as the WR, then bring in this arrogant, POC. I much rather try and see if Lance Moore of the Saints can be had, instead of Burress.

I wouldn't make any decision on who I'd like to see them get based on Mike and Mike. That said, I'd be all over getting Lance Moore too if he didn't cost too much. I don't see that happening though.

Lance Moore would cost money and a 2nd round pick. That would make #99 the Bears first pick. Granted, Moore would be better than any 2nd rounder the Bears could bring in, but you can't keep giving up draft picks for players with larger salaries. Good teams build thru the draft, and despite they would be bringing in another young WR, at some point you gotta sign all these guys.

Listening to the idiots on ESPN talk about this trade would be funny if they weren't so contradictory and absurd. Jim Rome says the Bears gave up too much, that Cutler won't help because they don't have any receivers but he likes the trade because it shows the Bears are trying. FTH?

Some other DA was saying Cutler would be no good because it gets cold in Chicago. I never realized that Denver was such a tropical paradise.

The Sports Reporters guys, to a man, thought this was a trade the Bears needed to make and couldn't understand anyone even suggesting otherwise. Especially Steven A. Smith.

lol... screamin A

I'm so conflicted right now... I can't wait for the season to start but there's little I hate more than fall/winter. Part of me wants to skip forward and, with summer around the corner, part of me never wants to get there.

Yeah, I was happy to see that at least SAS took the time to base his comments on what Bear fans have been through in the past.......forever number of years.

Really interesting quote from Angelo from that article:

"I've kind of changed about draft choices, particularly first-rounders,'' Angelo told me. "I don't have the same conviction on ones that I used to. It's the money, the totally unrealistic expectations, players coming out younger and not as experienced, players with too much time on their hands and too much money and not being grounded enough. I've become a little pragmatic about the first-round picks. They've been looked at like the Holy Grail for so long. Here, we had a chance to get a quarterback who's already shown he can play really well in the league. He's a guy with resilience; you've got to be resilient playing at Vanderbilt and succeeding John Elway. So we felt like it was a good investment for us. Time will tell.''
