can anyone give me a scouting report on Minnesota?

they are a terrible football team

Did they just play a week scheudle early on? They started out 7-1 or something crazy and then finished like .500 or a game over

I might be remembering a different team, but I'm pretty sure Minnesota was like Vanderbilt, walking a tightrope(similar total yardage, really advantageous turnovers) to win games early against mediocre teams, then that luck ran out and they got smashed by everyone the rest of the year. As long as KU doesn't do anything really dumb in this game they should win by a couple scores.

What's the deal with NIU. I know they went 6-6, but I think they will probably beat Tech?

now that most teams play a 12 game schedule, they need to bump the # of wins for bowl eligibility to 7. it's crazy that a team like Notre Dame can go to a bowl but end the year with a losing record

Something tells me it's more the Notre Dame part than the 6 win part that's bothering you. Nevermind that any team with 7 wins is already in a bowl.

how many 6-6 teams got into bowls? I know a couple of years ago, KU was 6-6 and got passed on.

There are only a few I think. I don't think any 7 win teams got passed up for them.

their non-conference schedule consisted of Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, Montana State, and Florida Atlantic. they've played something like 2 non-conference games against schools from BCS conferences in the last 10 years. they squeaked out their 3 conference wins against 3 of the worst 4 teams in the league, got spanked by Michigan (at home), and were completely dismantled in their finale against Iowa.

Eh, I don't know. Tech's strength is stopping the run (11th in the country) while that's all NIU can do. They can't stop the pass (116th in the country) but that won't matter much because NIU hardly ever throws. I think Tech wins in a close game.

And the way they do bowl selections now is that every team with a higher win total goes first in the bowl selection process. So before any six win teams get into a bowl game, ALL of the 7 win teams have to be in a bowl game first. Then they narrow it down and that's how those six win teams got into bowl games.

no, it's more of a "there are too many bowls already" thing. I'd feel a littel sorry for the ND players to end up with a losing season by losing to Hawaii (though they get a free trip to Honolulu, so....)

the Indy Bowl will probably fold soon. they don't have a title sponsor anymore since PetroSun didn't pay them last year. they are already in debt a few million.

Most football teams play week schedules.

it'll be replaced with something else. Right now, more than 1/2 of the FBS schools make a bowl game.

yeah i would think that bowls like that would go under, but they keep adding, not subtracting. i don't know who the hell is supporting these bowls; i can't imagine deciding "well i'm free this evening, can't wait to sit down and enjoy colorado st. versus fresno st."

I definitely do that.

Yes, you can call me sad, but I love college football that much.

i like watching fresno state myself. pat hill games are always entertaining. you never know what shenanigans he's going to pull out.

I watch pretty much all the bowls. Mainly just because it's college football and I want to see some games.
