Do the padres still need to shed payroll? Is it possible that the padres have a deal done with the cubs but can't be finanlized because of the ownership situation with the cubs and peavy's salary? I just find it odd the cubs would trade away all those players and only get pitching in return which is what the padres want. Not to mention they got olsen which is someone the padres wanted.

11:43 Bill Center: I don't think there is a deal finalized with the Cubs, but I believe there is still interest on both sides. I do believe the Padres still have to shed salary to meet their target. Right now, they would have to pay below the major league minimum of $400,000 to the remaining unsigned players to hit their target -- and that can't happen.

Hi Bill, do you still see the padres shopping Peavy? Is there anyword of whether peavy is mad about the treament he received? The Cubs seemed to be making moves that smell like a trade is in the works but that ownership situation needs to be resolved first.

11:12 Bill Center: I think Peavy can be had by any team willing to meet the Padres price and get Peavy's approval for a trade. And given the Padres situation, I suspect Peavy would listen to opportunities beyond the club's on his original okay list. I don't think the Peavy question is over.

Do you think the Padres and Cubs will revisit the trade talks for Peavy? I would imagine that if it happens, it has to happen pretty soon. Doesn't something have to give given the 40 mil budget?

11:14 Bill Center: We don't know if they're not talking now. The way the last round ended, I don't think either side was happy to have it aired in the public the way it was. Certainly the Cubs have opened up some salary space on their roster and have acquired at least one more pitcher the Padres like

NOthing too special this is Bill Center from the SanDiego Union Tribune today on a chat

padre fans can bellyache and complain all they want about the fact that the cubs have nothing that they want, but the cubs are the only team that can give the padres front office exactly what they want, so the fans are going to have to deal with it when peavy becomes a cub. and he will.

From Buster Olney. I haven't read the last page or so, so apologies if it's been posted

There have been no recent conversations between the Padres and Cubs about Jake Peavy, according to sources. But the threads of talk could be picked up and taken to completion within a few hours, given the groundwork that was done in December -- and with the Cubs' ownership situation moving toward resolution, it wouldn't shock anybody if the Cubs/Peavy thing were to be rekindled in the next eight weeks.

Why stop at Peavy. If this new owner really wants to make a splash he'll sign Manny for LF and we move Soraino back to 2nd and deal with his subpar defense there.

Soriano

Lee

Bradley

Manny Ram

A-Ram

Soto

between soriano at 2b and manny in right field, carlos zambrano might not break a 5.00 ra

I think their are little league teams in this country that would be a better defensive team than one that included a MI of Theriot/Soriano and a OF of Manny/Johnson or Kosuke/Bradley.

Manny could take a piss on the ivy everytime the ball comes his way in LF during the regular season as long as his bat is in our postseason lineup I would be very happy..

In fact thats what I fully expect Manny would probably do if he were a Cub. Maybe not as the balls are hit to him but definitely at least once during the season he would be spraying that ivy down.
