Just to tease everyone a little more, this is our projected rotation based on their best big league seasons. The good news is that 4/5 pitchers had their best year within the last 2 seasons, and 4/5 had their best season at least partially with the Cubs:

Peavy 19-6 2.54 ERA 1.06 WHIP (2007)
Harden 10-2 2.07 ERA 1.06 WHIP (2008)
Zambrano 16-8 2.75 ERA 1.21 WHIP (2004)
Dempster 17-6 2.96 ERA 1.21 WHIP (2008)
Lilly 15-8 3.83 ERA 1.14 WHIP (2007)

Same five pitchers, cherrypicking the worst of their previous three seasons as starting pitchers:

46 innings,, 104 ERA+

202 innings, 99 ERA+

189 innings, 114 ERA+

115 innings, 63 ERA+

182 innings, 106 ERA+

I love you Kyle

i love you too, but we can't be moviebuddies, that slot is taken

Gammons just said that the Cubs think a deal will get done for Peavy. The Padres are a little more skeptical but still optimistic.

-Didn't all the other reports say that the Cubs were the ones being skeptical?

Cubs were reluctant to get a deal done because the price was too steep. Padres are skeptical because they supposedly facilitated a 4 team deal and it looks like the Cubs rejected it.

If this ever gets done I think I will tarp up my basement like the locker rooms after clinching and have a celebration with goggles and beer showers

to be honest, every time he is mean to me and doesn't show me the respect of capital letters, a little piece of me dies inside. but then i think about how we both like shawshank redemption and its all good

Peavy's 2006 is weird, I wonder what was happening there.

He tried steroids but he was doing it wrong so it had the opposite effect.

Zambrano is not being traded. He has complete no-trade, and he took less money to get it than he could have gotten on the open market.

Peavy wants to stay in the NL. He wants to go to the Cubs. Towers was being honest yesterday when he said it was down to one team. The Cubs continue to say the left-handed bat is their top priority. But there doesn't seem to be a rush on that because the market isn't moving. The prices for Ibanez, Abreu and Bradley and whoever else will only come down as time drags on.

Towers has said that it's all up to Jim now from his quotes yesterday and today, What's keeping him from pulling the trigger and being hesitant? Towers seems to want to get this done asap. Usually Hendry is real quick when it comes to getting a caliber player such as Peavy.

Im guessing DeRosa is whats holding it up. All of the other players are name that have been tossed around since day one. Seriously, if we can get Peavy, and then land Abreu, Bradley, or even Ibanez, DeRosa wont be missed.

Getting Abreu, Bradley, or Ibanez will be a reason for DeRosa to be missed. They're all old, crippled butchers in the field and it would be great to have DeRosa take over as a late-inning defensive replacement. It doesn't matter who we get or sign, DeRosa will be missed as a versatile professional who added a lot to the offense. I would think that if you picked an MVP on the Cubs for the two-year span of 2007-2008, DeRosa would probably be in the top three.

If Hendry misses out on Peavy because him and Lou are obsessed with adding some crappy right fielder I'm seriously going to flip out.

He's not going to miss out. He's gonna have every opportunity to make a trade for Peavy on his terms. Towers has no other option.

(*waits for another team to surface as an option*)

Levine on ESPN:

-says trade may not happen this week but still thinks it gets done

-says to keep eye on Milton Bradley. Cubs are talking to him. Says Cubs are front-runner and wouldn't be surprised if they signed him to a 2 or 3 year deal for $7-10 million per. Cubs asked about his health.

If any team can screw this up, it's the Cubs.

I absolutely want Peavy here, but I won't believe it until I actually see him put on the uniform at the press conference.

Watching the ESPN 2 Hot Stove report, Karl Ravech chatted with Bruce Levine, and made me feel like both Peavy and Bradley will be on the Cubs.

Let's hope that's the case.

Do you really think that's what's going on? That a deal for Jake Peavy wouldn't get done because the Cubs were obsessing over adding an OF (which they need)? Is Jim Hendry incapable of multitasking?

I'm not trying to be an ass, but I just think it's funny when people think things like this.

How's his character been? I'm not the biggest believer in clubhouse chemistry, but that guy is a stark raving nutcase. I hope he doesn't lose his cool, because I fear for anyone around him at that time.

I'm actually more excited about Bradley than Peavy. I think Hendry is targeting the right person here. Edited by UMFan83

Bradley for 10M a year or less would be outstanding.

Bradley and Peavy? Isn't there a point when it's just wasteful and inefficient? Do you really need to try to win 110 games in the regular season?

You're complaining that they're trying to improve the team too much?

I mean, you have a point, but as a fan, I'd have no problem with trying to field a team with all stars at every position. Sure, the playoffs are a crapshoot, but I'd rather be betting on the 6 or 8 than the 10....
