I mean, I think most of us believe Donnie's story, right? Seems far fetched that anybody could/would make up something that elaborate.

Peavy obviously seems to have a significant preference to come here, and that, along with the fact that ownership wants the big contracts shipped out, seems to be pretty key in this whole thing.

I mean, think about this for a second. Both Towers and Wren, 2 General Managers for MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL teams have been working on a potential trade for a while right? So you mean to tell me that's all been useless, and that Peavy would have never accepted a trade there anyways? And neither of those GMs wrere aware of that, yet some guy in a casino who briefly chatted to Peavy knew about it? Come on. You know perfectly well if we were Braves fans reading this stuff we'd laugh. The 2 millionaire GMs don't know about it, but DonnieD does? Plus there's the fact that Peavy had the Braves as one of the 5 teams he'd accept a trade to in the first place. I think people want to put too much into Donnie's story and aren't being reasonable because of it.

What if I told you DonnieD was a billionaire?

My point wasn't that they are millionaires...it's that those millions were paid to them to run a professional sports organization. So DonnieD being a billionaire wouldn't be relevant unless those billions came from the Padres or Braves.

According to Dave Kaplan (on Blackhawks pregame), "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Cubs are no longer seeking a trade for Jake Peavy."

That's wildly disappointing.

What could possibly be an unforseen circumstance? They said they would still pursue Peavy even if they signed Dempster. He's still available, so the only circumstances should be (a) the Cubs have signed someone else (b) the Cubs have nowhere to trade Marquis or © the Cubs are bankrupt and can't spend another dollar over the current budget. Or maybe they figured they had no shot at getting Dempster anyway...so they decided to tell the media that they were going to go after Peavy and Dempster knowing full well that they would only get one but putting on the old Cubbie facade that, boy, we sure tried but it just didn't work out...

Can anyone confirm that Kaplan said this?

Unforseen circumstances? What could that even be? They have a new trade target they didn't expect...money is short all of a sudden...Cuban's situation impacted the sale of the team and things are different now...weird. I hope he is wrong.

My TiVo was able to confirm it, but I'm guessing you'd like someone other than me to post it! ;)

Dave Kaplan is a sensationalist hack.

lol do you just copy and paste that phrase every time a sports guy says something you don't like? You've used that phrase verbatim like 5 times in the past 2 or 3 weeks.

I'm not surprised. I had a feeling when Demp got his deal we would be out of the Peavy sweepstakes. I'm a bit disappointed but Hendry can make it up by signing Furcal and Bradley :)

The use of the phrase "unforseen" circumstances is strange. What could have happened that would be unforseen?

It's definitely cryptic. My guess is Dempster signing or a possible free agent target/trade.

Good, because signing Bradley would be bad idea.

I have a hard time believing that Kaplan would go out on a limb like this unless he has a reputable source (<--god I hate that word) So I ask anybody did Hendry or any "high ranking official" make this statment or is Kaplan trying to jump the story before everybody else?

Kaplan has good inside info. When he hints to something there's usually a reason.

I'm guessing that they will repeat and possibly expound on what they said earlier on Blackhawks Pre-Game during the first intermission. I will listen carefully and anyone else who wants to should do the same. It should come in 15-20 minutes or so.

When I first heard it, it was a second-hand report from Pat Boyle saying that "Dave Kaplan is reporting that..."

Stay tuned if curious...
