I'm hoping we'll at least offer arbitration and get two picks.

I'm not happy with the way the door was shut on this. I would have rather seen Hendry do something along the lines of offer him a 1 year deal, and tell him it's on the table if he doesn't get the multiyear from another team that he wants, so he can have another healthy year and increase his value. Or even a token 3 year deal. Whatever, we should have left something respectful on the table while allowing him to see what's out there for him.

Kerry is going to get really good offers. I think it is pretty much a given.

Maybe so. I just can't stand seeing the door shut without at least leaving it open, even if you know it's inevitable. Wood Irrationality.

i love kerry, but i'd hate the cubs to invest 3 years and at least 30 million on a closer with his injury history.

still stings, though.

nevermind, i changed my mind. i really really hate this.

So...where does Kerry go? Any guesses? I guess the Mets would be front runners.

anaheim to replace krod

i really don't want to see him in the NL. i don't know why i'm being such a girl about all of this

St Louis.

please god, i don't think i could take it

I know that one of the predictor, free agent things, sites had him ending up there. That would be just too much.

i can't even picture this.

i'd probably cheer for him if he struck out the side against us. I wouldn't know what to do.

I'm fairly certain there was probably some asking around and tossing about of numbers that led to this.

I'll cheer for him. It isn't his fault that Jim Hendry pissed away money on Marquis, Fuku, and Dlee. Money that could of easily allowed us to sign Woody.

Sad, but the smart move. We can't invest 8-10 million a year for 4-5 years into a one inning relief guy with an injury history and a tear in his shoulder. Godspeed, Woody.

I really don't think there were any other factors than the fact that you don't give a guy with his injury history the type of deal he's going to get unless you are in desperate need, which the Cubs aren't.

There's no blame to be assigned over this, because it's the right thing to do from a business standpoint.

Emotionally it really, really sucks, though. I think I might vomit the first time I see him in another uni.

No we'll just spend it on a starter (peavy) who is a walking injury waiting to happen or a guy who has a career year on his contract year(coincidence? demp) and will prob turn in to jason marquis if he is re-signed.

Well thats foolish then. He is no less a health risk than Harden. Peavy, who we are all dying to get has had arm problems the last two years and many are predicting more for him. This is a money issue. We wasted too much and now it is biting us in the butt. And yes it really sucks.

The Cubs should give Wood a ring and 2009 World Series share. What is your favorite non-May 1998 moment? I'll never forget his behind the back catch against the Braves in the 2003 playoffs.

How many players in the league have been on the same team since 1998? Trevor Hoffman, John Smoltz, Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Jason Varitek....I can't think of any more.

The game 7 homer. For a moment I believed.

Sorry Woody, but I just can't agree with giving you 10 per for 4 or 5 years. I'm a Cubs fan before I'm a Kerry fan.

Good luck old friend. This separation would have sucked a lot more in the years before MLB Extra Innings and DVR.

Sucks to see him go. Good luck, Kerry. :bye:

Hello, draft picks

Do we offer Howry arbitration now just to be greedy with the draft picks? Even if he accepts, what will he cost? Around $4 mill. Worth the risk of getting 2 more 1st rounders.
