The KC lineup is not exactly Murderer's Row so the 1.59 WHIP is not overwhelming, but obviously the fact he only had two walks is at least a sign that maybe he has something figured out. The key is going to be when he faces some of the more powerful offensive teams in the AL East and get knocked around a little will he be able to keep it together and not start getting wild again.

Has Rich ever thrown a occasional pitch as a side arm curveball? Most of the time, I remember him throwing overhead curveballs, and they were effective, but that one K that he had was a sidearm throw....

I remember him doing it a few times in 2007. I was watching him pitch against the Braves and he struck out Andruw Jones (I think) will that sidearm slider thing. My friend and I just looked at each other, like what was that? But it is a really good pitch, if he mixes it in every once in a while.

Yeah, I was watching the game, and he struck out a batter with a side arm curve, and I looked at it and said "WTF was that, Rich?"

Is Hill still trying to add a third pitch to his repertoire that he can rely on? A sick curve and a heater isn't enough to be a star unless you're Sandy Koufax

You can be a really good pitcher with 2 pitches, which Hill proved in 2007. I'm sick of this "You can't be good with only 2 pitches as a starter" stuff. all hill needs to be a very good pitcher is good control

I'm happy for Rich that he's at least having some good outings. Maybe he's figured something out. But if he turns it around and gives the Os anything close to his 2007 numbers, I'm going to be so pissed off.

Why? It might actually get us an ok live arm from A ball that way. And it's not Rich's fault that there was no spot here.

Yeah, Cubs fans should be rooting for him to do well since it'll improve the return we get for him. I've seen people talk about getting "bothing at all," and that's not the case.

If he has a good year this year, I wonder what type of prospect we'd be looking at.

I hold nothing against Rich and I'm not pissed at him. I hope he does well. I'm pissed b/c whatever we get won't be as good for us as if Rich had pitched in '08 and beyond like he did in '07. Not saying it's his fault, just pissed at the circumstances.

There really isn't anything respectable about 12 walks in 21 innings. Other than that, his numbers look pretty respectable.

If hes striking out more than 1 batter per inning, and allowing less than a hit per inning, you can deal with those walks from a starting pitcher.

It's no guarantee he would have turned it around for us, however. Also keep in mind he was in the Orioles' minor league system for a while before being called up. He wouldn't have had that luxury on the Cubs.

he was in the minor league system because he was rehabbing an injury.

Yeah, you're right - he was on the DL to start the year. I had forgotten.

I just wonder what, if anything, the Os fixed with him. And whether or not the Cubs would have found the same thing.
