Good. There are probably better LH RFs to target.

I honestly have this strong feeling that we will be making a big push for Bobby Abreu this offseason. More good, not great, hitters!

Theriot ®

Lee ®

Ramirez ®

Abreu (L)

Soriano ®

Johnson ®/Fukudome (L)

Soto ®

DeRosa ®

Blah we need more lefties, but at least we put one in the middle of the lineup

If it's not Abreu, Dunn, or DeRosa (via a trade for Brian Roberts), I'd be very surprised. I'd put my money on Abreu, personally.

Man, if Fuku can handle center like he looks like he can and can take a decent step forward offensively he will be much more tolerable there.

I take it this puts to bed any chance of Edmonds returning to the Cubs next year. I wonder how much value Pie has left at this stage. Bradley is another name that would certainly look good in RF.

Do other teams kill off the trade value of their players like the Cubs do?

seriously. couldn't the cubs shop pie before telling everyone "hey we don't have a place for him to play, so give us a couple of C- prospects and he's all yours"

We need to get more athletic and younger and we're probably going to have to fill our needs through trades.

I'm almost certainly reading too much into this or just flat out dreaming, but could this sound like Hermida?

He's the primary young, athletic player who fills a need for us and is available. Perhaps. :-k

Buh bye Pie...

If he can net us something good in return as part of a trade, seeyuh.

A Fuku/Johnson platoon in CF is fine by me.

Agreed. Fuku/Johnson is just fine, and in a few years time, hopefully Colvin will be ready.

Pie and Marshall should be more than enough for Brian Roberts if we still want him.

I'd rather they go after someone the can hit in the middle of the order. Dunn or Hermida would be just fine.

If they were to go for a vet, Im guessing theyd go for a cheaper option. Both Garrett Anderson and Raul Ibanez, who are esentiallt the same guys ar both lefties, and could come fairly cheap, as opposed to Dunn or Abreu. Granted, they're both pushing 40, but they're still serviceable. If we could get one of those guys for say a 2 year 15-18 million deal, I say go for it. lets face it, I really dont see the payroll stretching far enough to afford another 15+ mil/year type player.

Fukudome is a great ML rightfielder. He won't be nearly as good in CF.

Agreed, defensively he goes from a plus defender with an above avg. arm with above avg. range to likely avg. range with a plus arm.

While last year he would've been below avg. for a CF'er offensively, hopefully improvement can bring him into being above avg. offensively while not being a defensive liability.

They do need a LH'ed RF immediately or a LH'ed version of Sandberg at 2B*.

While giving Fontenot a chance is definitely intriguing, if he fails, do we have a good enough offense to make up for it until we can make a mid season trade? We still need that solid 3 or 4 hitter to compliment Ramirez, and thats not something that will come cheap or easy.

IMO moving Fuku to CF just to give way to Fontenot would be stupid, and I don't think that is what the Cubs have in mind. Reed will probably be back to platoon and hopefully we'll be after a RFer (or Roberts for 2B and DeRosa in RF).

List of potential free agent LH RF:

Griffey

Hinske

Bradley

Abreu

Ibanez

Dunn

Anderson

I wonder with how much money Hendry will have to spend if Hinske will be on the radar. I'm not saying that he should, but looking at the potential free agent lh hitters who could play in rf, he is someone who could be a wild card guy.
