It's ok for the SEC cause they have stud teams like Vanderbilt and Auburn. And it's totally acceptable to lose to a garbage team like Ole Miss.

You can't expect to run through a gauntlet like that!

plus it's okay for usc to lose to oregon state because they're worn out from their brutal non-conference game against virginia.

Because it is so much harder to run through the likes of Wisconsin, Iowa, Northwestern, and Iowa, because they are legendary powers. We can debate which conference is tougher and/or have more depth, but it would be a short discussion.

Besides, Ole Miss would be the Big 10 second best team, period. Have you seen Ole Miss play? Of course not, cause you're allergic to tough hard nose football.

actually i would like to do this, let's see your comparison of team top to bottom of each conference - like rank each team in one conference from best to worst, and compare it with the team in the same spot from the other conference.

Ohio State would crush Ole Miss. Michigan State would probably beat them handily. In fact, the only Big Ten teams I can say with a lot of confidence that Ole Miss would handle would probably be Purdue, IU and Michigan.

I can't stand the Big Ten, but this post is absolutely ridiculous.

I've made one trip to an SEC game (Tennessee at Arkansas in '99). The trip was a ton of fun and great experience in all but one aspect. Every time I was introduced to someone or told anyone where I was from and what team I was a fan of, I got the Red Flash treatment.

SEC fans believe some really outlandish things.

Last year in the week before the Cotton Bowl, Arkansas' defensive backs spent the week telling the media about how Mizzou hadn't faced a real defense or something similar about "SEC speed". Then gameday came and Mizzou laid them to waste. We had a lot of fun finding Matteral Richardson on the field and watching him chase Tony Temple.

guys i have a confession. i'm allergic to tough, hard-nosed football.

:(

I am too. Thus, I watch Big XII football. It's a conference where someone picks a 45-24 score for OU/NU and I tell them both teams' scores are too low. It's a conference where a team can turn the ball over 5 times and still score 35 points.

Thanks for the laugh.

I despise the Big 10 and I don't think it's a good conference at all, but Ole Miss isn't a very good football team. I'm sure OMC would be brutally honest and say that there's no way they would be in the top 4 in the Big 10.

Matteral Richardson said that? Who is he to talk about SEC speed, getting beat all the damn time?

Maybe he'd been telling himself, "In any other conference, I'd be the fastest dude on the field."

I've been a fan of Big 10 football for over 20 years, and I'm still waiting for the day when teh games rise above the weekly slap fights. I mean seriously, play some defense!

Me too. Or a conference where 6th best QB would be starting on every SEC team outside of Florida and Georgia (forgot about Stafford).

actually i would like to do this, let's see your comparison of team top to bottom of each conference - like rank each team in one conference from best to worst, and compare it with the team in the same spot from the other conference.

Someone does that already. It's called the Sagarin conference ratings. He does two, one where the rating is weighted more to the middle teams of the conference and one where each spot in the conference is equally weighted. In the first, it goes Big XII, Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Pac 10, Big East. In the second, it goes Big XII, Big Ten, SEC, ACC, Pac 10, Big East.

Also, if we're seriously doing the "Ole Miss in the Big Ten" comparison, there are clearly six Big Ten teams better than Ole Miss right now: Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, Northwestern. Illinois/Wisconsin are in the same field, Illinois maybe a little better, Wisconsin maybe a little worse. Purdue, Indiana, Michigan are clearly worse.

So, in the bottom half of the conference for sure, possibly bottom third.

Confirming what I've been saying most of the year, the SEC isn't that good this year. Isn't Meph supposed to swear by Sagarin?

Amongst the SIDs I work with, Lubbock is largely considered one of, if not THE worst Big 12 city. Manhattan and Ames are up there as well.

Are you kidding me? Columbia is a dump!

It really is a down year for the SEC especially by their standards. The SEC West just isn't very good.
