6. Okie State

OkSU fans tend to get their panties in a wad when you refer to anyone from Oklahoma as "okies". It's one of those regional slurs that originated during the Great Depression. I personally don't mind it, though.

I will be cheering for the bright orange clad sheep shaggers this week, though. :banghead:

The sad state of Oklahoma ;-)

Yea, it sucks having to share a state with fail like this.

What do they pay you to go there?

The obvious answer as to what that ref was doing: He was giving him the business.

Bravo, my friend, bravo. =D>

For those unsure of the reference, Ron Cherry is possibly my favorite referee.

Ahem?

Good sir, I can safely say I've never seen that, but it may be one of the funniest things I've seen.

My link was funny, but yours is quite a bit better.

I'm not too sure, but I'm pretty sure this was Mike Gundy's letter to recruits.

you know, two months ago tonights auburn west virginia game looked like one of the best games of the season. pat white and noel devines speed against, perhaps the fastest defense in the country.

no we're wondering about how embarrassing the other half of the game might be.

and for laughs

Is anyone else's school having this kind of problem? I think this type of thing could start happening in a lot of places.

What's the deal with T. Boone Pickens' $165 million donation to Oklahoma State?

You've probably noticed that our economy is in a bit of a slump right now. If you haven't, then allow me to congratulate you on an amazingly blissful existence.

Sooner or later, this "crisis" or "mild depression" or whatever the experts are calling it these days was bound to trickle down to the level where it would really make an impact.

Three years ago, oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens made a $165 million donation to Oklahoma State University, which was to be used to improve the athletic facilities. But, as the New York Times reports, things have gotten a little complicated.

"Those funds, along with $37 million from other donors, were invested in BP Capital Management, a hedge fund controlled by Pickens. At the time, it looked like a windfall that would keep on giving. Instead, Pickens recently acknowledged that his investments had lost $1 billion this year amid the financial crisis.

Now, building on Oklahoma State's athletic village has been held up, and the athletic director, Mike Holder, said the project would have to wait until Pickens's financial situation improved. Holder and a spokesman for BP Capital declined to disclose the current value of the university's investment in Pickens's hedge fund.

In layman's terms, the problem is that OSU has gone forward with some of these projects under the assumption there would be money for it. Now that money may not be there.

More is sure to develop in this story as we found out just how bad things are in Stillwater.

Ill go ahead and guess most schools arent having problems similar to this. Maybe Oregon.

Auburn just pulled off a 21 play drive (and didn't score a touchdown). Is this 1956?

The drive took ten minutes off the clock. 16 of the plays were rushing.

Yep, that is Auburn Football in a nutshell.

If Auburn keeps playing like this, they might knock off Alabama. Although that might be the best game of the season. Who wouldn't want to see 4 quarters of Auburn running the ball between the tackles versus Mt Cody?

If Auburn plays like this they MIGHT keep the game competitive. Alabama will beat Auburn comfortably.

Two words: Josh Chapman. Learn his name, respect his game. He is Bama's most talented interior player and strongest player. Bench presses 485/squats 600lbs. this kid demans the same respect that Cody demands. Alabama won't miss Cody

as much as people think.

edit: tune back into the AU/WVU game and I notice AU has given 24 unanswer points to WVU. So if Auburn plays like this against Bama, they'll lose by 4 touchdowns.

i remember in the emerald bowl a couple of years ago, navy had a 26 play drive and also didn't score a touchdown. that drive took about a full quarter off the clock.

For the more statistically minded, here's a close game(within 2 scores) S&P ranking of all the BCS schools. S&P is like the OPS of Football, combining "success rate" and "Points per play". More on the methodology here. The number you see is Offensive S&P minus Defensive S&P. It's not adjusted for strength of schedule, but a "+" number(like OPS+ or ERA+) is due out soon when there's sufficient data.

Nice to see ND relatively high by that measure, though I'm sure once an SOS is thrown in that will change.

i do a college fb confidence picks thing, and most weeks it's a mix of relatively easy games, moderate-confidence games and then a handful of tough games to pick, but this week is the hardest i think it's ever been:

texas tech @ kansas (-1.5)

minnesota (-1.5) @ purdont

cincinnati (-2.5) @ uconn

boston college @ north carolina (-2.5)

wake forest @ miami (-2.5)

okie st @ texas (-12)

georgia @ lsu (-1)

virginia tech @ florida st (-5.5)

ucla @ cal (-17.5)

michigan st (-3.5) @ michigan

aTm @ iowa st (-3) - what a terrible game, no idea why they're making us pick it

alabama (-5) @ tennessee

penn st (-2) @ ohio st

oregon (-3) @ arizona st

usc (-15.5) @ arizona

UGH. three relatively easy picks (usc, cal, texas) and then the next easiest line is florida state -5.5? plus there are a large number of road teams that are small favorites. at one point i was going to be putting 11 confidence points on iowa st, but then i realized how awful they are so i knocked it down.

i came up with:

15 on cal

14 on usc

13 on texas

12 on florida st

11 on oregon

10 on cincinnati ](*,)

9 on lsu

8 on miami

7 on michigan st

6 on ohio st

5 on iowa st

4 on kansas

3 on boston college

2 on purdont

1 on tennessee

24 hours, 43 minutes till we bury the Willingham Era. Right now I'm like Raisin if UCLA football and basketball both played against Dorrell and Lavin-coached teams on the same day, multiplied by about 20. I want to drop 60 on that punk.
