Yeah, somebody needs to beat Boston. They really annoy me.

 

And it's not because I hate their players--besides Pierce. It's just disgusting how they went from garbage to all-time great over one offseason because Kevin McHale is such an abject failure as a general manager that he did a marvelous job of improving his old team rather than the one that currently employs him.

 

Throw that in with the success of the Patriots and Sox and this is tough to swallow. If they break the 72 win mark I'll freak.

I don't think McHale's selling KG for 5 cents on the dollar, if that, was a 'failure' at all. If you ask me (and there's some evidence of it), he passed up better offers to send him to Boston to help the Celts.

 

Ironic since Celts fans spent half last season whining about how unfair the Pau Gasol trade was.

I think people should realize now how great a coach Skiles was. He took a talentless, undisciplined group the the playoffs. He overachieved beyond belief. This team looks hopeless.

I agree. They should blow this team up and build around Rose.

 

Gordon is the best scorer on the team, but he's turning into Jamal Crawford/Jalen Rose. One dimensional guy who can't create his own shot and can lead a bad team in scoring. Plus, he makes Rose worse.

 

Hinrich is solid, but he has some trade value and won't get any better.

 

Deng has to show me something. I cringe when I think back how he was the untouchable in a possible Kobe Bryant deal a few years back.

 

Nocioni is my favorite of the bunch. He can be a rock solid contributor on a good team. Too bad this isn't a good team.

 

The team needs a real big man in the worst way. Tyrus Thomas isn't going to cut it. If they had any shot at Chris Bosh in free agency, he'd be a great complement to Rose.

Not only was Luol Deng untouchable, but they signed him to a monstrous contract. Luol Deng will be known more for his charitable acts than his basketball soon enough.

If we can find that thread you'll see some posts by me shouting that when a Kobe is offered, you give them what they want and ask no questions. People are starting to see it now with Rose. That is that you are always closer to a championship in the NBA when you have a superstar to build around than you are with just a handful of good guys.

 

The Pistons threw everyone for a loop and kind of spat in the face of that law of basketball, but the reality is it was only one year. They faced no competition in the East, and that Lakers team was a hot mess by the time it got to the final.

 

You need a marquee guy or a couple of guys just below that level and good defense to be a contending force in the NBA. There are Pistonsesque exceptions occasionally, but not very often. Well for that matter, I could argue that the Pistons overcame their lack of a marquee guy by having 4-5 all stars or near all stars who played unbelievable defense. Before anyone mentions the Spurs I'll just say that Tim Duncan is indeed a superstar AND they have always played elite defense. This team garbage the Bulls have been spouting since they drafted the Hinrich/Gordon/Deng core is garbage.

 

Watching the game today showed a lot of what I think the Bulls need. They need Tyrus to be Josh Smith, they need a big shooting guard who can shoot outside, drive and distribute like Joe Johnson and they need athletic big men. I have no idea how the Hawks don't play better defense with their athleticism. If ever a team needed Scott Skiles, it's the Hawks.
