I'm not really out of the market but I haven't had to deal with much. I vented to a few people, took some crap from a few others. Nothing major. Luckily, the only Sox fan I talk to that often is a rational one and doesn't really blast the Cubs very much.

I live close to Winnipeg, MB and most of the people that I interact with are Blue Jays fans (so they have an obvious inferiority complex, like many of my fellow Canucks as they are hopelessly jealous of anything American....another topic for another day) and they all bashed me and let me have it for having hope for this team. I expected nothing less.

The Blue Jays shouldn't be so quick to think they've got hope. They've now got 3 legit contenders in front of them instead of two.

I agree and once Burnett leaves this offseason and the injuries in their rotation, I think that the Orioles have a better chance of finishing ahead of Toronto than the Blue Jays have of finishing ahead of teams like Tampa and Boston. You would be surprised, though, how unknowledgeable most Blue Jays fans are and how arrogant they are with that team. I try not to talk baseball with my friends because it leads to dumb arguments. For example, I got into a heated one before the season when I said that I wouldn't be surprised if Tampa finished ahead of Toronto. This turned into an hour long near fight before I had to let it go. Now those exact same people are mocking me for my Cubs fandom. The other thing that annoys me is that I started following the Cubs when I was 10 and am 24 now. These guys started following the Blue Jays again 3 years ago because the management said that they were going for it again. Now, I can guarantee that one more season and they will be out of the baseball scene once again. They stop watching games as soon as the team is out of it, but yet declare how big of baseball fans they are. It all in all infuriates me.

It's two different worlds for me. Back home in New York, most of my friends are Met fans so they really can't say anything. Here, going to college at Penn State, all I have to do is walk out of my dorm room and find loads of Phillies fans on my floor. But yeah, people ask me "What happened to your Cubs?" What am I supposed to say to that?

I had my desk swept by a mini broom about 15 times on Monday. Probably half of them by people who didn't know who James Loney was until last Wednesday. And oddly enough, the diehard Dodger fans here haven't said a word to me and have been pretty darn nice.

Go Phillies.

I know you live in the LA area, and I was curious. I dont know if the Angels and Dodgers have the kind of rivalry as the Cubs/Sox or Yanks/Mets, but if so, hows that going? On one hand, you have the Angels who dominated their division, not to mention league all year. They went bye bye after 4 games. Then, theres the Dodgers who didnt make their presence felt until the last month or so of the season, and passed up early season juggernaughts the D Backs, and then made short work of the supposed undisputed best team in the NL. Angels fans have to be ducking for cover every time the see a Dodgers fan walk by.

The Angels-Dodgers "rivalry" is nothing like the Cubs-White Sox or Mets-Yankees (probably because no one cared about the Angels until 2002). Heck, I know tons of people who root for both teams here. Also, there are way more Dodger fans in my area (I live in LA, 20 miles from Orange County).

Most Dodger fans are talking Phillies, not Angels.

With the other Cub fan friends, we have yet to even make "eye contact" even though we've been within a few short feet of each other.

To the fans of other teams who are friends and know my passion for the Cubs, they've been as respectfully quiet as possible, or a few of them shared in a respectful way their frustration.

To the fans of other teams who are not close friends, but acquaintances who know my passion for the Cubs, they have each said "what happened to your cubbies", to which I quickly and loudly said I'm not talking about it. I'll talk to you about anything else, but not that. They quickly adhered to my request.

Yes.

I have an oil painting of Wrigley Field in my office, and 80% of the people who have entered my office since the end of the series have made a comment of some sort, whether it be chuckling at my expense or offering their condolences.

Aside from my coworkers, my good friends have just generally made fun of my Cub fandom.

Three times today people have asked me "Hey, what time's the Cubs game tonight?"...

... I casually tell them... there is no baseball tonight...

The student body here is 50% Cubs fans and 50% Cubs HATERS. Not a pretty sight at all. A lot of them dont have a team, they just find the Cubs fan majority to be annoying. I cant go to a bar if the Cubs are on because they piss me off so much.

Uh, it's more like 80% Cubs fans. Conservatively. Iowa City is just about the most Cubs friendly place in the world outside of Wrigleyville.

I would agree with 80% in Iowa City, but there has been a very vocal minority the last week. There are six or eight Cubs fans where I work (some bandwagon, some good) and a smattering of others. The most annoying is a Diamondbacks fan who roots for Arizona and anyone playing the Cubs. Even the Cardinal fan at work isn't as annoying.

Arkansas here.

Right away I got the jokes, etc. I said, " so who's your team? The Razorbacks?"

They say, "HELL YEAH!"

I say, "Yeah, me too. You do realize they've won jack poop in their history, right?"

That got most of them. The actual baseball fans were quieted with logic.

That was my response to my one baseball team-less friend. He's from AR, so I just asked him how the Hogs are doing. End of discussion.

Oh, I nail them with more than just this year. I get them with the fact that they've never won an undisputed title -- ever.

It's the smart asses that think they are being cute with their remarks that make me mad.

I can take a good bit of ribbing and for the most part, I'll joke about the Cubs and their failures.

When I went to class today a guy yelled at me when I walked in "What happened to your Cubs"? I jokingly flipped him off and went to my seat. Later during our break another guy walked up to me and asked the exact same thing. The first guy told him he had already asked me.

I'm in NYC, so most people here are upset enough about the Mets collapsing and missing the postseason for the second straight year or the Yankees missing the playoffs for the first time since 1995, so I haven't gotten too much business, more apologies than anything else.

It is no fun here. I have a close friend who is a Sox fan and he's been very supportive. Other than that, I've dealt with a ton. Today I was wearing a Cubs shirt and some random guy wearing a Cards WS Champs shirt says, "Enjoy your World Series this year. Wait, nevermind..."

I'm used to it though, living my whole life in Missouri.

I've found something to the effect of "please speak up, it's hard to hear you down in 4th place" can be pretty effective.

Then you get to hear about 2006.

Yeah, usually it's something about 1908.

We were catching 1908 crap at the Orioles series we went to, in the last game when Baltimore killed Jason Marquis. It was kind of cute in a "we've never been relevant except for that one time our shortstop didn't sit out for 16 years" sort of way.

From Orioles fans it's pretty funny....a little ironic maybe.

From Cards fans though -- unfortunately they've won a World Series very recently. They can talk crap. Glad I don't have to live down there.

Seriously, until 2006 I could just tell my friends, "And how many Cardinals World Series Championships have you seen?" Thanks Mets and Tigers...
