I'm a little stunned he actually said that. Anyway, I'd love to see Fukudome head back to Japan. Having say... Dunn in the outfield would make a Pie/Johnson platoon completely adequate.

I'll pay the extra 5 million a year for Manny if I want a black hole/hitting only LF. Just my opinion, though.

Funny...I said that when I was 27...about 20 years ago...I'm getting too old to really care anymore...Family and friends are what's really important so who really cares...Don't worry, you'll get to where I am young man.

Funny how the most mediocre former major league players go to Japan and become superstars, and were surprised that most of the Japanese phenoms that come to the majors become mediocre players, and least the offensive players.

Fukudome is a good player. I fully expect a good showing for the full year next year.

You're right, he is a good player.....in Japan. Just like Kaz, Iguchi, etc...

all conjecture but here is what I think may be happening:

The NL has a "book" on Fukudome and he has failed to adjust to the pitchers approach to him. He could turn it around next year with work and study of how to adjust to the new approach to pitching him.

2/3 of the way over on that switch, and I am 29

I'll bet Lou really hopes the mysterious gunman that forced him to play Fukudome #2 in the lineup in game 1 is brought to justice.

Seriously...it's time for Lou to own this. He's setting the guy up for failure in big spots, what does he expect?

Stick him in center and bat him eighth, where his production will be only slightly below average.

I think there's a decent chance Fukudome goes back to Japan, if he has the option to do so. I'm sure this year has been humiliating for him, and I'm sure Lou doesn't want him in the team's plans for next year.

I certainly hope that doesn't happen. It would be humiliating for him and the Cubs. I have the utmost hope that he's able to work hard in the offseason and come back strong next year.

I'm not saying he wasn't a detriment to the team offensively this season, just that I would hate to see something that started so promising end so poorly and abruptly.

humiliating?

Losing 9 straight playoff games after being 5 outs away from the world series with a 3-2 lead is humiliating

Getting swept 2 years in a row is humiliating

I hate to turn on Lou but there must be a reason why he never made it to the world series with some of those M's teams especially that one that won 115 (i dont remember nor do i care the real number) games

You think Lou would have gotten the picture when Torre brought in a damn righty from the bullpen to face Fukudome last night with 2 men on and 2 out. That would have been a great PH spot for Hoffpauir. Oh, wait.

Few situations in the history of major league baseball were as irrelevant to the outcome of a game as that one.

I don't know about you, but I'm still a bit shocked that Fukudome didn't hit an 8 run homer off that righty reliever.

I can't believe how horrible the guy is at the plate.

I didn't think Fuku would be amazing, but no way did I think he would suck this bad. I don't think anyone else did either. Look at the credentials in Japan. Sure, it's not MLB, but they know how to throw a curveball and a low-and-away slider over there. Yet Fuku was fine. Now all of a sudden he can't hit anything. I doubt anyone really expected this level of suckitude.

A very expensive mistake for the Cubs. Very expensive mistake.

The obvious answer as to why Lou handled this terribly, is because he is pretty much an idiot, and as terrible at managing as baseball team as 95% of managers, which is to say pretty much bad as Howry.

Sarcasm?

That's not the point.

It doesn't help that Fukudome is regularly screwed by umps with balls 10 inches off the plate being called strikes. I noticed it quite a bit early in the year, and that's when Fukudome started swinging at all sorts of crap. Of course, there are much bigger problems, but I'm getting sick of seeing those pitches called strikes on him. Guys could probably throw three straight fastballs down the middle and hold him to a .250 AVG at this point.

In his last at bat, that first pitch called a strike was comical. The K-Zone thing showed it to be about 14 inches outside.

Same thing in game 1. The cynic in me says the old ass umps hold some sort of post WWII grudge against Japanese players. They have called a heck of a lot of awful pitches strikes against him, and it appeared to start after his hot April.

The umps in general were awful last night. There was a ball that hit white grass called foul, strikes right down the middle called balls, the ill-advised throw to 2nd by Zambrano was clearly late and they called it out. They were pathetic.

Dexter, why do you post here? Seems you have so much pent up hate and anger that you should be talking to a psychiatrist rather than posting negative bullhowry on these forums.

Ironic.
