So Guzman, Gaudin, Cotts, Hart, and Wuertz are pretty much lights out vs. a team fighting for their lives. only 1 of them will be pitching enxt week. Meanwhile 3 runs are allowed, to Sean Marshall, and of course Bob Howry. Care to reconsider your decision Lou?
You don't really think one of those guys should be on the roster instead of Marshall based on just tonight, do you? Marshall should be in before all of those guys. And Wuertz wasn't lights out. He walked Craig freaking Council with the bases loaded to put them ahead.

Oddly enough, I'd rather have had Howry pitch to Counsell and Wuertz pitch to Braun.

As stats go on the year, Wuertz has been the Cubs fourth best reliever this year by ERA+.

Much of that is due to before he was wrongly sent down. His control has been howry-ty since he came back up on 1 Sep. Howry is the only other guy I'd rather not see then Wuertz in the playoffs if there are already any guys on base.

Anybody but, Howry still, despite that disappointing BB to Counsel I'd still go with Wuertz over Howry given a choice between the two. Damn that BB Counsel, after that first swing he had no intention of taking the bat off his shoulders.

As much as I'm down on Wuertz right now, I'd take him over Howry 7 days a week, twice on Sundays.

In the eight appearances Wuertz has made since he's come back on September 1, he's allowed a walk in four of them. He's allowed a hit in three of them, and a run in one of them. That time was on two hits and a walk vs. Cincy before Marmol came in and gave up a granny on the first pitch in a game the Cubs won 14-9.

The fact is that a lot of these guys may be inconsistant at best, but Howry is horible 90% of the time. Who would you rather have, a guy who you dont know what they're going to do or the guy who you know will cough up runs every time out?

Yeah, I'm a fanboy too but I'd take Gooz in a heartbeat.

Me too. Him or Wuertz over Howry. Or both over Howry and Marquis. I'd rather have Gaudin than Howry too. Hell I'd rather add Larry Rothschild himself over Howry.

Howry'll make it.

Hopefully Lou will only use him with two outs and nobody on in the ninth with the Cubs holding a nine run lead.

He'll still make me nervous, though.

It's at the point that when he comes in, the question isn't whether he'll hold the opponent down, but how many runs will he surrender.

So when do they officially announce the rosters?

Indeed a dark moment in Cubs history. You can almost tell on Hendrys face that hes done something awful.

To be fair, he was pretty good the past few years prior to this one. Instead of his usual second half surge, he got even worse.

Howry blows another one

He's gonna ruin it this year guys, I just know it

I dont think that Lou will let it come down to that. He knows whats up with Bob. No crucial situations for him.

I disagree.

Lou put Howry into crucial situations plenty of times during the season. I don't see why he won't do it again in the playoffs.

If Lou really "knows what's up with Bob" then he wouldn't be on the playoff roster and would be replaced with Wuertz or Guzman.

I've thought about it a lot .... but I still can't piece together the set of circumstances that would have to evolve that warrant Bobby Howrey's inclusion in a game the Cubs wanted to win.

The only thing I can think of was Hendry wanted to provide a proper sendoff for Howrey's last pitches thrown in the majors. Kinda like when Baker put in the great Dr. Dave Veres in game 7 of 03.

If that is the reasoning, I'm against it because, as I'm sure you all remember, Veres schwansed up yet again for his final pitches in 03 and Howery is 100% certain to do thusly.

Please tell me I just dreamed that he's taking a baseball players place on the post season roster and that it will all be different when I wake up.
