I'm guessing this is where Rotoworld took it from. No mention yet that he might miss the NLDS, just that he probably will sit out the Brewers series:

Bruce Miles[/url]"]One of the Cubs' most valuable players probably won't play for the rest of the regular season.

Infielder-outfielder Mark DeRosa suffered a strained left calf Wednesday, forcing him from the game. A day later, he was wearing a boot and was limping around the clubhouse.

"Here we go, where we've been pretty healthy for the last month or so, and in one day, we lose two middle infielders," said manager Lou Piniella. "That's not good. I don't know if DeRosa will be able to play at all the rest of the way. We're a little short in the middle."

Who's the other middle IF that's hurt?

Apparently Cedeno couldn't start yesterday.

Hurt his shoulder sliding into 1st base.

Will that dumbass ever learn that it's not a good idea to slide head first into 1st?

Theres a lot that he will never learn, which is why no matter where his floor, ceiling, or walls are, he'll never be our starting short stop.

There's really no reason to slide head first at any time to any base.

Immediately after Derosa was removed from the game he was placed into the walking boot. Yesterday, Bob and Len said as much and added that he'll be wearing it for the next few games but he's considered day to day.

Why the Herald chooses to sensationalize everything before confirmation is beyond me.

However, as fans, don't write this off as a minor deal if Dero is truly injured for the NLDS. It will be a significant hit to the roster.

So this is what we're overreacting to today?

who's overreacting other than, maybe, rotoworld?

edit: post #1908 :)

At least the "Curse of the poster Electron Blue" has been broken.

Next up: "There's no such thing as curses" curse

You're new here, so I'll let it slide, but you don't call out Bruce like that. Ever. [-X

No, but seriously, Miles tends to be the exact opposite of the type of writer you're talking about and was probably just reporting what he saw.

it was Rotoworld, not the Herald

It looks like the Herald simply says it's likely DeRosa out for the rest of the season, which doesn't include any postseason games. This would only make reasonable sense, since there's no need to play hurt at this point of the season.

What is this "everything" the Herald sensationalized? At no point did I write that DeRosa might miss the postseason. The Herald is in no way a sensationalistic paper. Maybe you ought to read more carefully.

dammit bruce...updates man!

seriously though...is dero gonna be OK on wednesday?

I'm not sure there's any more for Bruce to add. The original source in this story was Bruce and was rather clear; the controversy that has popped up came from a secondary source that cited (yet contradicted) him -- rotoworld. It's them we want to elaborate.

I remember Mark DeRosa diving headfirst in to first base on multiple times. Is the Penn graduate an idiot?

it's stupid to dive headfirst.>

Shame on you for not hurling criticism at Cedeno!!! Don't you know hes the only player that does anything wrong?

MILWAUKEE - Most of the Cubs will enjoy Monday off before Tuesday's workout at Wrigley Field.

But two key ingredients, Mark DeRosa and Carlos Zambrano, will report to work Monday.

DeRosa ran Sunday for the first time since straining his left calf Wednesday in New York, hoping to show enough that he'll be available for Game 1 against the Dodgers at Wrigley Field.

"He'll be ready Wednesday," manager Lou Piniella said. "Let's just say we think he'll be ready Wednesday. We think."

DeRosa was surprised to hear that. He insisted there was no chance he would not be ready Wednesday.

"I feel like I'll be ready to go," he said. "There is no question at all."
